Gaming trends, bad omen for our hobby?
« on: September 30, 2015, 09:59:35 AM »
I have been reading up on trends lately for casinos and it seems that people are beginning to realize just how a bad a bet these modern slot machines are, to the point where the millennials are more likely now to play the unattended table games, like the big community blackjack video that has the busty dealer on a bathing suit handing out the cards, or the roulette where you pick your choices on the screen and a big mechanized roulette wheel is in the center.  Casinos are reducing the slot machine floor space to accommodate these huge gaming machines.  It was just a matter of time before these highly volatile machines turn players off. Used to be that you could walk up to your old reliable Double Diamond machine with a $20 and could get a decent amount of time playing the machine.  Nowadays, you put $20 on a slot, and you could  blow it within a minute just betting the minimum!  I miss the old days where the bonus games where pick 'ems and not just free spins.  I understand the allure of high volatility and getting those HUGE wins, but you really need staying power on a machine in order to experience that unless you are just really lucky.  Playing these newer machines at home with the most generous paytable, sometimes I blow through $300 to $400 before I get any kind of sizable win, and not even to break even.  Don't get me wrong, I love these games, but I'm to the point now, that I would rather buy a Colossal Reel title for $600 and play it at home, rather than blow it at the casino and not have it at home.  The last 2 times I've been on a casino, I have probably played no more than $50 on machines that are too new to have at home, but those are far and few in between.  My local casino's here stil have a preponderance of bb1's, igames+, bally alphas, and some bb2's.  The casino's here don't invest in new stuff.  Probably different in Vegas, and now with G2E going on, will probably see some changes within the next few months, maybe worth a trip to west coast for that.  I thought that when class III gaming would come to South Florida, I would be going more often than I actually do.  My mother goes 2 or 3 times a week, but the last time I was in one was probably 6 months ago.  Anyway, just venting at the state of affair on our beloved hobby.  The next thing is supposed to be skill based gaming, it will be interesting to see how that goes.

General question to add.  Say your favorite game is Zeus II on a bb1, and you have the game at home.  Do you still play it in the casino?  I'm trying to determine in our small sample of slot enthusiasts here, if the adrenaline rush from winning at the casino is such that you would pay to play the game even if you have the exact same game at home.  I for one do not play the games at the casino floor if I have them at home.

I do, in hopes that the payout %s are set the same way that mine are set at home.  After about 20 bucks I can tell what the end game is going to look like, which is usually what I wasn't hoping for.  :(

It's just fun to walk around and say, "meh, I'll just play that one when I get home" if the machine isn't cooperating.

I must admit, I too play the same machines with the same game on it. And as usual they don't pay off.  :hissyfit:
I think I'm looking for that bonus round or bigger pay off like I get at home. (just a sucker I know).
I'm retired....My job is having a good time with my slots.   Please do not PM me for support or "how to" requests -- please post your request in the forum so that everyone may assist you and everyone can benefit from the answer to your question!  Thanks! :)

I've not dabbled into the world of Bally.  Never played one in a casino either.  I've been drawn to the sounds like a moth to the flame, but for some reason, I've never played one.  Hence the missing Bally badge.  WMS and IGT are all I own...for now.  ;)

I will play at the casino as "research" to see what I want to get for my home machines.

Game King is probably 90% of what I play in the casino.  Funny...I play the slots more at home and Game King not as much.
