IGT S+ codes 41, 42, and 43

I have a IGT S plus double pays 10 times slot machine that I recently got working with help on here. Thanks again to all that helped. I recently bought a IGT S plus Triple-double diamond slot machine that was coming up with Varying codes of 41, 42 and 43. I swapped the reels from working machine to problem machine and vice versa and confirmed the reels were not the problem. Then I swapped MPU boards and chips and triple-double diamond worked now and also got 43 code on double pays10 times. I'M figuring I need a new board and don't mind buying one, but just wanted to know if there is something else to check on problem MPU for Varying reel codes.... The pic is of the problem MPU board with the Double pays 10 times chips still in it.

 Here are some pics of the problem MPU board from my triple-double diamond machine. The weird thing is both of my MPU's have the volume pot sticking out the top of sheet metal which tells me they are 10MHZ boards, but the game chip for the triple-double diamond machine says it is a 16MHZ, but I could play the game when I swapped the chips into my good MPU. If I need new chips, could someone let me know which chips I need? And I would also like to get the biggest return to player chip.

A 10mhz will probably remedy your problem. Your reel prom has no numbers on it. I can supply both chips. PM if interested and include the details of the game theme.

Obviously, It's a 3 reel as most S plus machines are. How many lines? How many credits? Pictures of your board do not answer those questions since you reel chip isn't numbered.

Yes, It's a 3 reel and it has only one payline. And I'm not sure what you mean by how many credits. It plays 1-3 coins.

You are on the right track here. You cannot use a GAME (SP) chip designed for a 16MHz board on a 10MHz board, and vice-versa. If you do, it may work for very short bursts, but will pretty much always result in random reel errors.

With the 10MHz board you have, you must use a GAME (SP) chip designed for a 10MHz board.

Thanks for your input Kevin.  Not that it's a big deal at all to get the chips, but when recalling that the 16mhz game chip worked in my other 10mhz board, I was less than confident that the chips were the issue. Yours and Rons knowledge and insight that the 16mhz chip is probably my issue gives me warm and fuzzy's that I'm on the right track.  I should have 10mhz chips rather than 16mhz chips either way. It could also still be the mpu, but also no big deal. We will see when I get the chips Monday. I will say that the 16mhz chip in my other MPU board played, but I thought the reels spun a little slow.

While you are diagnose the 41, 42, 43 codes.
I was having kittens trying to figure why the 41, 42, 43, codes kept popping up. I switched the reels around to eliminate them as the problem, checked the plugs, I checked the switches on the door, it was driving me crazy.  :banghead:

Using my door optic bypass, I started to diagnose all of the reel related wires and plugs by wiggling them, and found one wire that was loose. When I straightened out that issue, the codes were eliminated.  :dancing_party:

You should be able to just pop them in. If you want to be extra thorough, run the clear chip first (here's the RAM clear procedure). You will for sure have to use the SET chip to re-enable your bill validator after a clear, but I always like getting the game up and running with coins first, then later (with no credits on the machine) using the SET chip to enable the validator.

So I replaced the game and reel chips with the new ones. when powered up the reels still spin fast and stop abruptly and just continue to do that. I also put the problem board with the new chips in a working machine and it did the same thing, spinning the reels fast and stopping abruptly. So I think I've confirmed the problem is in the MPU. I took the board off of the sheet metal and can see pretty good heat marks from the back side where (I think) other reel chips are (U1, U2, U10, and U11) and where the 5 resistors are in the corner, and some other spots I don't know anything about. Is it worth troubleshooting and if so, how? Or is a new MPU in order, If so, anybody have a 10mhz MPU for sale?

I can't really see much...the picture is too low of resolution.
It's only 183.98 kB when you can go up to 1000 kB.
When I hit the + key to enlarge it, it only enlarges the photo slightly.
If I manually override and enlarge it, the low-rez pixelates the photo.

What SP chip did you install?
All you said is that you installed new ones.
Need more info...

If you're throwing in a 16Mhz SP chip, it won't work on a 10Mhz board that has the blue volume dial and WILL cause erratic reel behavior similar to what you're describing.

If you've correctly installed a 10 Mhz SP chip onto a 10Mhz board, and it DOESN'T work... something is wrong with the board.

Putting the suspect board with the same chips into another cabinet, checks off that there's a problem with the board.
