You're almost there!  The error messages are all cleared  :applause: .  There's a sensitivity adjustment on the front of the coin comparitor that can be accessed through a small hole in the housing.  Use a small phillips screwdriver and try turning it completely counter-clockwise and see if that works.

Is the bill validator installed?  If so, have you tried using it?

You can change the machine denomination back to 50c if you want to, but you'll need a keychip to do that.

What is the model number of your comparitor?  Can you post a picture of it?

setting screw was already turned fully left away from plus sign.  so I replaced the quarter, reset machine, closed door, and yeeeehaaa...it started taking quarters, AND is now in full play.
The coin comparator pic is attached anyways.  As for the DBV, it is not taking cash, so I have to go after that next.  Also, the cabinet optics appear very touchy, since they need to be reset every time I open the door.  sometimes just giving the door a little whack does it.  I may end up doing the bypass after all.  But for now, shes taking quarters and playing fine.
….heres the kicker....wife is sitting at machine playing quarters and having a blast.   Apparantly, the voodoo doll was a fake.  probably just to try and keep me in check.   RIGHT, like that's gonna happen.
you guys rock.
DBV is next project.

Great to hear.
I have found that on some cabinets you might have to put a spacer under the cab optic to get the alignment perfect.  Also try moving it up or down just an 1/8 inch or so. It should be fairly stable unless the cabinet is really wobbly like the ones off of boats. ( salt and rust take their toll)
Start a new post for the DBV when you are ready.

ok, and now for the DBV.  I took multiple pics of the DBV, wiring, molex connectors, etc.  From what I see initially, it is not lighting up, but there is a bulb hanging at the back of it that is lit when the power is on.  Possibly it belongs inserted into a hole at the rear?  ( not funny guys...so don't go there..lol )
Also, there is a multi stem connector that has nothing attached to it.  Is that for casino tracking only, or do I need a harness with a plug to attach to all those things.  I am only guessing based on what I see so far.  Maybe there are some diagnostics I can run to find out how to check and get it powered and running.
By the way, I did try to insert a few different dollars and it would not even begin to take them in.

Does the bill validator cycle when you turn the machine on?

That little bulb gets hot as  :censored: .  It's supposed to be clipped on the back of the bill validator housing and acts as a convenience light.  It connects to door switch and turns on when the door is opened.

That other switch on the back of the bill validator housing was part of the tracking system.

It should cycle when the machine is powered up.  I guess the first thing to check is the connections on the back of the validator (where the hot light is).  There is 4 connectors coming off the black connector that the bill validator transport plugs into.  A two wire red/black (that's the power), a five wire Netplex connector brown/red/orange/yellow/green (that's the data connection to the MPU), and a two wire wht/black (that goes to the bezel lights).  The fourth connector is unused.  If those look good, then check the other end.  It connects to the motherboard at J10 which is next the the multicolor ribbon cable.  Let us know what you come up with.

all four dbv connections are together (pic).
connection at J10 also connected ( pic )
I also removed the cash box, and DBV drive unit.  All gears seem intact, clean, and hardly worn.  wiring looks fine.  There is a small white connection that has nothing attached to it which goes into the board in the DBV itself right next to the multi wire connection (pic).  Assuming that is not necessary since there is no wiring or connector nearby it.

That's strange?
I only use 3 of them - not all 4.
Where's the other connector coming from?? :Scratch-Head:

You only need the three plugs connected, I have never seen the fourth one used?  on the transport unit, are all the switches in the up position?  do you see the two red LEDS on when power is applied? ( they are visible on the right hand side and to the right of the switch bank)  you may have to go into the the menu and do an auto config on the bill unit, it will tell you when you do the test if the bill acceptor is enabled.

unplug the top connector in your picture and see what results you get after the auto config test.

The 4th connection probably went to the player tracking system.  If you trace it out the other end most likely is laying dead in the topbox.  Follow Jim's directions, nothing visible that is concerning about your validator from the pictures.  Once you get it working you'll probably want to update the firmware so it takes the new $100 bills.

hey guys, thnx for everyones input.
First thing I looked at after reading your replies was the switches. They were ALL in the off position, so I switched them all to the up. Reinserted DBV and cash box, restarted machine.  The area above the cash in slot is flashing insert bills or vouchers.  Tried some bills, older not newest singles, would not take them.  Disconnected the fourth connector at the top ( three wires connector for casino data ), and did the test to see if DBV is enabled.  It said it was enabled.  There are now two red leds lit on the right.  Closed the door, machine was not coding, tried two bucks, did not go in.
by the way... I forgot to write down the sequence of buttons to get to the DBV enabled screen after I luckily found it and saw it was enabled.  can ya remind me, just so I can add to my list of stuff for future reference on my machine?
and, now I am seeing from other threads onsite that not all switches are to be left in the up position?  or is that just for testing?  and setting credit limits may factor in.  hmmm.  this is becoming an obsession.  got her working, and now am obsessed with the DBV.   I love it.

Up or down is relative to how you're looking at it.  With the transport upside down they are all down.  If you look by dipswitch #1 it will shows an arrow and OFF.  Make sure there all in the off position by that and you know it's right.  Picture attached.

To get to where you can enable/disable the bill validator do this:

Press MPU self test button
Cashout button twice
Spin Reels
Cashout button twice
Spin Reels twice.
It will show the current status either enabled or disabled
Then press either service or cashout to enable/disable

To exit hit Play X credits a few times or close the main door

Were you able to do the netplex autoconfig?

Press MPU self test button
Cashout three times
Spin Reels
Cashout two times
Spin Reels two times
Auto Config completes then display says Printer 2: Installed
Cashout
Then should show Bill Validator Installed

Have you ever heard the bill validator cycle yet?

ok, so all switches now at the off position as your pic is.  ran through the enable sequence.  DBV is enabled.  Ran through the Auto config sequence, and after hitting last cashout button, machine had Bill Validator installed showing.  Closed the door, machine reset itself, heard the DBV gears turning and stop. DBV light now on steady, not flashing.  Tried a dollar.  Took bill in, but then spit it back out.  Wife got mad, because I accused her of making another voodoo doll and hiding it somewhere else.

That sounds like progress.  At least it is cycling and accepting a bill, even if it spits it back out like a ....well never mind  :Tongue_Out: .  When you say the light is on steady are you referring to the bezel light above the bill slot? Did ya try a different bill?  Sometimes ya gotta fight voodoo with voodoo!

well, very good news, and slightly bad news.  The very good news is the machine now is accepting cash.  I got a few singles, and one five to go in.  I opened the cash box and they were all neatly stacked for removal.  Yaaayyyyy.
The machine is being very picky about which bills it accepts, and some work face up, some face down, and some backwards.  Others don't go in at all even if I am sure they are neat unwrinkled and have good corners.  Maybe I need to clean something inside of where it reads the bills??
The slightly bad news is that I have no idea how I got it to work...lmfao...  I went into the options menu, and found the credit limits.  I don't THINK I changed any settings since they were all very high in numbers.  Then I once again did the Auto config sequence.  This time when I got to where the display is supposed to say "Printer 2 installed",  I noticed it said "Printer 2 not responding".   I may have missed that the first time I ran the config.  I hit the Cashout button once and it indicated the Bill Validator is installed.  So that's when I closed the door, and tried the cash which it began to take.  So its taking money anyways, in spite of being fussy as a Wall Street Call.....well you get the picture.
So can I make it less fussy or do I just live with it ( sounds like a female thing )   lol.

Sheez, you're almost running out of things to fix!  One you get everything working I guess you won't have anything to do except for play with voodoo dolls :Tongue_Out:

There's a black plastic lever on each side of the bill head, pull them towards you and then you can open the head up.  Clean the magnetic heads with some alcohol and a t-tip and the rest (rollers, belts, optics) with a mild detergent and q-tip or cloth.  Don't use alcohol on the optical sensors (clear plastic inserts) they say it will make them cloudy and then they don't work very well.  You can open the back end of the transport as well and clean the belts too.  That will probably make it less finicky, now if only it was that easy for a woman  :24: .
I'm thinking the netplex autoconfig may have done it, but I though it would cycle when power was applied regardless.  It's one of those things you'll never know like how many licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop.
