aristocrat eeproms wiping themselves
« on: November 24, 2019, 12:20:58 AM »
Has any one heard of this.Have Werewolf wild.when using an eeprom reader on the left and right system eeproms they appear to have corrupted themselves in the reader. They were working before the read event but nor afterwardsThis does'nt make much sense because the read function should be the same as if the program was reading them.Any ideas? Thanks

Thats odd,
Usually the only way to erase the system chips is to take the sticker off and put them in a uv eraser.
Is you reader working correctly?
Were the chips installed upside down in the reader or on the board?

Prom: Programmable read only memory

Eprom: Erasable programmable read only memory

Eeprom: Electrically erasable programmable read only memory
Quality doesn't cost. It pays.

I can still read and see that the program is there but some part of it has been corrupted on both chips. You are correct the only way would be to expose to UV.Have copied other eeproms without any problems. My reader won't let you do anything if in upside down.
Don't know how but was wondering if Aristocrat was able to see if a copy was being done and corrupts the chip?

Aristocrats don't have any copy protection, they are regular old EPROMs (MK7 and later are CF+sim however). Is it possible that some of the pins are just dirty?

Good to know your EPROM reader has chip destruction protection, as putting in chips the wrong way will only produce magic smoke when powered up (hopefully they weren't installed backwards on the machine itself).
