Bally M9000 24v Power supply problems

Hi,


I've got a American Original Bally M9000 machine that's been trouble free for several years. I had to move the machines for some photographs, and when I brought it back, the computer fires up fine, but the cabinet (24v supply) is dead. The fans aren't turn, and there's no light anywhere.


I checked any connector that I could see, and they all seem tight. I pulled the power supply and checked all the electrolytic caps, and none were deformed or swelled. I didn't see any resistors that looked burned as well. There's a multi part transformer that looks a little weird but it could be how it was potted.


Before I spring for a new 24v supply, I was wondering if anyone had anything else I should check?

Update: I picked up a tested 24v power supply and put it in. Still dead. I'm looking for a service manual for the M9000 Alpha with some schematics or diagrams.


I'd like to sus out if AC power is getting to the 24v supply, and go from there.

Did you check the fuses?

I found one fuse above the panel, which was fine. I don't see any others. That would be logical if there's others.

There's only one fuse to best of my knowledge.

The problem is there are two power supplies, 5v and 24v. The 5v (and some other) which powers the computer system is fine. It's only the 24v one that's kaput.


I was hoping to find some schematics or repair manuals for the M9000, but only finding one for the S9000, reeler type, not video. :/


I'd like to check the jack where the power supply plugs in to see if it's getting AC power to it. The AC comes in from the power cord into the box both supplies plug into, but I don't know the pinout of the jack. I guess I'll have to pull that out (ugh!).

They M9000 and the S9000 share the same power backplane.  The S9000 has more parts that have to do with the reels, but the backplane, power supply schematic are the same.

Thanks Rick. I have some docs for the S9000 series, but from what I saw, they don't appear to have two power supplies like the M9000 (5v & 24v). Are the different versions of the S9000 series?


I'm wondering if anyone can point me to some electrical and mechanical manuals for the M9000. Or at the least, some info on the pin out of the connector on the power supply that mates with the power backplane.

All my S9000's  have the 5/12v power supply and the 24v power supply. Not sure why your documentation would show something else.

Hi Rick,


Weird, probably mis-labeled docs (I've seen that in a few places).


After some tech support from the company I bought a spare 24v supply, it turned out the 5/12v one was bad, not the 24v one. The tech walked me through testing the supply, which let me figure out the pinout (and testing it).


Since I didn't find much info out there, I'm going to write it up and post it here for others who might want to do the same thing (and for myself when I forget what I did later).
