Help with SPN setup in a BB2
« on: March 01, 2021, 09:08:25 AM »
Hi
I am trying to set up the extra button deck in a BB2. Every thing I've tried so far leads me to the Timeout Error. I installed the board that the 2 yellow cat wires go to behind the lower screen. The yellow one to the door board I know I have right. The one to the backplane, does it go in the backplane like a BB1, or does it go in the top of the BB2 CPU? I've tried it in both. Now the power to that Cat board. Both of my aux power plugs on the back plane have something plugged into them, so behind the lower screen on the left is where I plugged the power pigtail into the top plug, thinking there might be power there (nothing smoked). What am I doing wrong anyone?  Sorry for the quality of the pics. also I tried turning the pics

What are you trying to run on the BB2 that needs the SPN deck?   Anything that runs on NXT 2 and needs the EBB can use the OLED deck instead as far as I know.

Star Trek maybe??

No, BB2 CPU. There are games like Griffins Gate, Hart of Venice, that should play on a BB2 CPU, but they require the extra SPN Button deck. If I can get this working, than I guess I could then switch out to a BB1 CPU to play the other BB1 SPN games that only play on a BB1. If a OLED deck plays these games, I guess that's why your wondering why I'm trying this. My machine did not come with one, I'm making do with what I have.

OK sounds reasonable.
But if you have a bb2 cabinet, you really should try to get an OLED deck. It really makes gameplay more fun AND it will cover the EBB/SPN needs when they arise.

Of course if you want to play BB1 games, you will need to switch it back to static button/spn deck.  Once you have everything, the swap is quick and easy.
