2khz Timer error
« on: November 04, 2014, 10:31:57 PM »
Hi Guys,

Already posted this but I htink in the wrong section.  Anyway,I have a Oz Aristocrat machine MK5 that I know very little about.  When it powers up, it does 1 beep and basically keeps restarting.  After a while it does 2 beeps then shows all checks OK except for a 2khz timer error.  Cant seem to find much about it.  Looking for any ideas or suggestions to get this thing running. Thanks Heaps

Edit: this is a NSW machine Queen of the Nile

Thanks for the info.  Ill try replacing that.  My only other question is that the one I found on Transgroup show's 3 batteries on the board but mine only has 1.  Is that an issues or should that board be OK for my machine?

I looked at this one:  https://transcitygroup.com.au/shop/ref-078.html

OK thanks everyone.  I got a new board and put it in and longer get a 2khz timer error.  The issue now is that all checks are ok and that's as far as it gets.  The lights on the MB cycle through a few times then the machine restarts.  It does this continuously.

Any Ideas?

Have you got another set of game eprom chips to try out on your new motherboard to see the game fully boots to display?
- It may be that one of the legs on an eprom chip is not seated properly and boot sequence is getting 3/4 of the way through.
- 1 of the eproms may have an error (this happens on rare occasions).

During the boot sequence, the red LEDS should shift/cycle, is this happening?
From the time the EGM is turned on, on average, it should take no more than about 25 seconds to boot into screen display.

This is now the fun part of a process of elimination.

The fact that the original board passed the tests but after a few rough crashes the timer did not pass, that's pretty normal. The new board is probably just a bit more tolerant, there were about 4 different revisions of those MK5 boards. So I bet the original board is probably fine.

What colour is the Power supply? If its a gold colour then its probably that.

Also, try this, leave in the Comms board (on the right side, has little loop wires etc), but take out the Driver board (on the left). Non touch screen AU/NSW games will boot to the graphics screen without the driver board, ofcorse nothing will work, but if the PSU has issues sustaining power it might just be enough to get it booting or not..

Only got 1 set of EPROM chips unfortunately.  Double and triple checked that they are seated correctly.  Looks ok to me.

Yes they are.

Yes you are correct the Power Supply is a gold one.
