In a home machine the players card system is pretty much useless.
They are just the input terminal as the master computer system for these is generally centrally located in the casinos data room.
Some people have hacked the master com terminals and have they scrolling things like "Welcome to Mikes casino".
I replaced mine with a progressive meter in each of my machines.

I replaced mine with a progressive meter in each of my machines.

Is that the default display Jay?  All I have is the blank black strip.  I'm guessing I'd need to change the game chip but that looks like an interesting mod to think about on my S+?

The display is not native to the machine.

I am using a CON1 Mikohn progressive (link) controller and a LED5 Cham 1 display driver.

Progressives are a whole new set of fun for the slots.

IGT made a small progressive that goes behind the pay glass where the top award sticker is. I have those too.
These are standalone progressive. You can continue to use the same game but you would want a newer game chip like a 1271.
You then use a SET90 chip to program it.

The mikon series of progressives were used commonly in the S+.
You can go with a CHAMII+ which is a single slot Standalone progressive.
You can go with a CON2 to connect up to 32 machines and then ChamII (Non plus) to drive the in machine displays or you can get a large supreme overhead display.
You can go with a CON1 to connect up to 32 machines and then the Cham1 (also called a LED5 - Link Extension Device) to drive the internal displays or a LED4 to drive a large overhead display.

I have 3 slots and a video poker networked together with a CON1. Each of the slots have an internal display. I have a 32" wide overhead display and a 18 foot sign over my bar.

Is this the display? Can you post a full picture of that?  Your bar looks great! What time do you start serving?

The display is not native to the machine.

By "default" I was referring to the ->WIN<- displays shown in your first picture.

Is that what's referred to by the standalone and link progressive DIP settings referred to on the MPU cover?

Again, does the progressive need a different chip as well?

I re measured Its only a 16' footer -  it s across the top of the bar. You can see it in the last picture.
Each panel is 16" wide. I have 24 of them configured 2high x 12wide for a total 192"

The other display is a 1 x 2 (1 high, 2 wide). You can see it on top of the pinball machine.

On the very older chips you set the progressive capability by using the dip switches. Starting about the 700 series of game chips this was enabled by the chip.

When the progressive is enabled - your machine will only "hand pay" and no coins will come out.

On the S+ motherboard (what the MPU) plugs into there is a 4pin interface - for each coin or credit played it momentarily closes a contact which tells the progressive to increment. If the top award is hit the contact is closed which tells the progressive that the jackpot has been hit.  The progressive is a complete system of itself - you use a PC with a program called PSP to program the base amount (where the progressive starts) the amount to increment - generally casinos use 0.00125 for dollar slots or about  $8.00 in to increment 1 penny. I use 0.04 on a quarter slot - so each coin entered goes up by a penny. There are also reset amounts - what the progressive goes back to after the jackpot is won and limits - so if the jackpot reaches some amount you can hold it at the amount without further increment. Of course there is all the messages you can program in.

The standalone IGT mini-displays did not come along until quite late in the S+  life cycle and only work with the newer chips. You use a SET90 to program these.

From a casino perspective the progressives are a marketing tool and do not change the odds of hitting the amount.  In a bank of machines the progressive would start at what would normally be the top award for 1 of the machines and it would increment with play across the bank. The casino then can write off the progressive win as marketing.

The unusual thing I am doing is having my video poker networked with the slots - this would never be done in a real casino as the royal flushes are hit way more frequently than the slot top award.

BTW - I host a large St. Patricks party every year.
This year its on March 12th (the Saturday before the great day). If you happen to be in the Calgary area PM me and I will get you invited.
Its usually just 200 of my closest friends (at least 2 kegs of beer are consumed).

Jay,

Quick question for you... Are you aware of any displays larger than a mini-photon, but smaller than the full displays like the ones you have mounted in the user panel area? On my S2000, there is the option to remove the TOP payout sticker, and instead of simply replacing it with a "Progressive" sticker, I wondered if there was a display that could be mounted behind the glass?

Here's the thread I posted earlier this evening... http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=10091.0

The mini photon is what is designed for that space.
I am not aware of anything else in a progressive.

I do have a small LCD that you can program a scrolling message but it's not tied to any progressive.

I am sure if your handy with a soldering iron you could disassemble one of the 12 cell mikon meters and replace the with smaller cels.

Yeah, that sounds to be a bit more work then I wanted to get into at this time. On the displays that you use, are they a simple setup? I have access to the progressive section of the game. I just wasn't sure if there was anything special that I needed other than the display itself.

I've found quite a few posts showing the displays in different stages of installation, but I have haven't seen a "Step by Step" procedure on getting it installed, programmed and functional on an S2000.

Thanks!

If you haven't already, check out the NLG "archive site" which has some older posts which you'll likely find helpful.  There are a few sub-forums about progressives over there.

Here's a link: http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?action=forum#8

In particular, I think this thread might put you on the right track.

If you have additional questions after reading the old posts there, I'd suggest starting a topic in either the IGT Stand-alone Progressive Systems sub-forum, or the IGT S2000 and Vision Games sub-forum, as the S+ forum is not the right place for help with an S2000 machine.   :propeller:
