Help Identify This Video Poker Machine?
« on: March 21, 2018, 02:26:53 PM »
Can anyone help me identify this machine?  It seems to have been operated by United Coin, but I can't find any other detail inside the machine.

I'm trying to find a manual/schematic for it.  It is giving an error message "bad test bytes at 4998" . I have a rom burner, but no idea where to find the roms, figured I'd start with identifying it, heh.

Any help/direction would be greatly appreciated.  TIA!

It might be a CDS machine. The belly glass is obviously not correct. There should be an identification plate in the machine, or on the side.

The plate might have been removed.  Here is a pic of the board.

It's a CEI running United Coin software, I believe. I recognize the 906III turbo board and the KAR board in the back.
I have a manual at home that might be close although machine is a "multi-game," different from just single poker.
I'll check when I get home. Another member may chime in soon on this.
For starters... did the machine work before?
And either way, ensure all the IC's are securely in their sockets. Look for any dirty contacts on the back plane (motherboard) and on the MPU board. Then plug it back in and see what happens.
Measure the voltage of the battery and let us know.

The battery in the corner of the board read .9v.  I cleaned the contacts and reseated the board, and now it goes into system test, then goes into "Low Battery Mode" . Hrm.

Your battery is dead. You will need to replace it. Once you get it replaced you can progress. Most of these United Coin games were "Route Games" that were linked together. Is there another small board mounted just below the monitor?

Ok, is there a better battery to use, or should I get the same one?

Here are a few more pics.  The board was jumped like crazy.  It does have a board below the glass.  It was switched to free play.  I wonder if I could get to use coins again, for home use only of course.

It's a 1/2 AA Size 3.6V Lithium battery. Are you decent with your soldering skills? They're easy to put in. Check out vender list on the home page including K-Lar, Midwest Slots, Slot Rush, Better Slots Company. I'd avoid Ebay since people there sell outdated batteries as "new."
If you're close to a real electronic store, they might carry one.

Awesome, thanks!  No issue soldering/desoldering.  I will try and find the same battery and hook it up.  I wonder if Microcenter has one.  I'll keep you posted.  Thanks!

Would this be a good time to replace with a 2032 battery/socket?  Or other more easily to swap out interface?

I can't quite see what board the 2032 is on. I don't have that on my CEI. But if it's dead, yes.

I meant replace the old soldered on lithium battery with a socket for a CR 2032 battery of same spec.

No need though, batteries plus had one and I've installed it, and I got the error "bad test bytes at 4998" but then I set the date, rebooted and it went through test and seems to be working.

However, it wants money.  I'm not sure how to change it to free play.  The settings must have been erased.  To get into the extended menu, it wants user/pass.  I found/used 1492/1086 and worked, but no free play setting there.  Any ideas?  Here are a few pics with some connectors that are were currently disconnected.

Replacing the 1/2 AA battery with a 2032 coin battery will not last on this board. You need the same style battery. You can have a 1/2 AA battery holder installed, then use a 1/2 AA Battery. If you tried to go to a 2032 battery, it would be drained of it power in a matter of days.
Please remember to make a donation to NLG for mine/our help in repairing your machines problem.. Your donations help keep this site on line.
And remember...
If it's jammed, force it.. If it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyways...

Right on, thanks.  Do you know if there is a setting for free play?  I believe that is how it was configured previously, but the battery died, and I'm not sure how to credit up.

Are there manuals anywhere?  Thanks!

I will check my manual later today to see if there's any settings for free play for my version which might be the same. It may take a while so please be patient. I have to work again today. Plus you will have to wait for that battery to do anything. Hopefully you've found a source.

I got a battery at batteries plus yesterday, installed and back up and running.  But I guess the free play settings are lost, and it wants quarters, heh.  Quarters just fall through to the trough with no credit up.

Should the red light be on, on the coin comparitor?

Test mode shows @UCMC 1995.  Based on the game list, what software version is this running?  I can't find a manual that has similar menus.  Thanks!

There's some start up settings but I'm not home. Shoot sorry! I'll have to check later ... but I'll PM another member, who may be able to check in and let you know, before I get home later.
Good to see the machine is alive.

Don’t think there is a free play option on this game.  I have a similar game and see no option setting like your looking for.

Thanks for responding Dormi.  Is there a way to credit up the machine manually?

Is the red light on the coin comparitor supposed to be lit?
