Opening hard meters?
« on: May 14, 2018, 10:41:25 PM »
Is there any method for opening these hard meters?  I have a couple bad ones, and I'm sure it's nothing more than solidified lubricant, but I can't see any way to get at them.  Any tricks or are they just not maintainable?

I think they are a sealed unit. When they go bad they were just replaced.
Please remember to make a donation to NLG for mine/our help in repairing your machines problem.. Your donations help keep this site on line.
And remember...
If it's jammed, force it.. If it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyways...

For security reasons and non-tampering requirements by the gaming regulators those hard meters are hermetically sealed. They are not considered repairable. You might be able to drill a small hole in a corner, hopefully not hit anything inside, and squirt some PB Blaster or other light penetrating oil in there, then let the excess drain out and see if it gets it to working. If it isn't working now you don't have a lot to lose by trying something.

There is a small electrical solenoid in there, with a ratchet pawl arm that clicks the first digit wheel. This wheel turns the one next to it, and it turns the next one, etc.

There has to be a gazillion of these from parted out machines. I can't see that they would be in high demand. I would reach out to any of the vendors on our home page

Yeah, the NLG vendors have been the source of the meters I have.  Two don't work and I was hoping they might be fixable.  I still haven't given up on the idea.  I sacrificed one last night o get a look at the guts.  I'm going to try locating a couple of small holes over the gear train, now that I can measure where it is from the front panel, and inject a little Teflon lube and see if I can free it up.  If not, no big loss.
