Indian Dreaming (Au)
« on: September 17, 2018, 11:22:42 PM »
Hi all,

Just picked up this little beauty The previous owner said it was all working ok..turned it off . Next morning nothing.
When i got it home all I got was black screen. I can see the mpu board and io board have power. io is pulsing. Every so often it will try to start , See pics. One line down the screen.
The previous owner also changed the batteries after the error occured to try and fix .
I am a pinball head so any advise would be greatly appreciated .

Is there still sound or is it stuck like that with no progress? I hope the monitor isn't dying, that first photo looks bright enough to cause screen burn if it was left on in that state. Although if it was only a dud monitor the machine would still boot up like nothing was wrong. The second photo shows the button LEDs on (and note acceptor LEDs off) so clearly it's not in a "play mode" though. It's possible that something was bumped loose on its way to its new home, but who knows. Best of luck, wish I could get one here in Vic but they are off-limits and have the VLC/QCOM crap anyway.

Open the door and logic door
Then turn it on and watch the two red leds on the MPU board
If there is no led activity then after turning off remove and reinstall the MPU
board into the cage.
The board has to be pushed in very firmly as the sockets are very
tight on MK6 machines

Cheers guys for getting back.

The plot thickens! 9 times out of 10 when the power is applied ...no display and heart beat leds on the driver board.
If I apply slight pressure on the center of the main board , causing it to flex slightly the heart beat goes away and it looks like the machine is trying to start. ( display comes on with the line as pictured). I do get the alarm noise when I open the cage etc. Maybe a dry solder joint on the back plane and or edge connector? Is this some thing I should be looking at ? any other clues? Also wondering when the MK6 board is working properly how many leds should be on and should they be flashing?
Cheers again.

The most common problem is the MPU is not fully seated.
Watch the video in this link.
Its a USA board but the installing procedure is the same.

Thx Proten ,

The board is definitely seated / pushed all the way in . It cannot go any further.  :Scratch-Head:

I had the same problem and I had to push in very
hard to get the board seated to solve my problem.
And I mean HARD!!!

Hey lanternau, the main board is faulty, it's pretty common actually, I know because of what you described is exactly what happens when you bend it slightly. For fun you sometimes can buy time if you are lucky, put a bit of pressure on the board to bend slightly until it boots (as you have done) then try and use a bit of foam to hold it. You need to close the cage otherwise the error will remain (or just bypass the switch, its only 2 wires).

Good news is the boards pop up in AU on ebay/gumtree and on USA ebay all the time. MK6 boards are universal. (well, there are 2 versions original and XP [not that it matters in your case, its only large games need the XP version). A quick search found one for you from Gumtree AD ID: 1192624634

When you get it, just put the chips in exactly as you found them on the old board.

Thanks Pokie3,

Wish I saw that add a couple of days ago. I have managed to track down some that repairs/refurbishes the boards and it is in transit to him. It will probably cost me twice as much as that board on Ebay. Oh well.
Appreciate your feedback though.
Cheers

Get spare boards as the boards are only going up in price and get harder to find.
