S plus code 42

Good morning. I have a used machine that has a code 42. I replaced the number 2 reel that I bought from a supplier installed it and it still doesn't stop in the correct spot. This machine doesn't accept coins so the only way I can get the reels to spin is in the diagnostic process. It thinks that the door is open. I replaced both of the optics with brand new ones. Bypassed the cash box door switch and I replaced the mother board.

Code 42 will not clear until you get in a closed door state.  Make sure the optics are lined up properly and that there is not a belly door switch that needs bypassed, upper left corner when belly door is open. Sounds like the reel strip is not installed correctly.  Is the strip notch in the right place on reel?

The optics are aligned. The only thing in the left corner is a 3 pin connector that has 2 pins in it. And it is not bypassed.

Does machine have a bill validator?  Check it's door switch. Also look for a cashbox switch in back of cashbox cage.

The reel strip seam is lined up with the other 2 reels. I looked at the and I don't see notches on the reels

He didn't ask if the reel strips are lined up with the othe two reels.
He means if your reel strips are on the right spot (location) on the reel baskets.

The cut notches should be nearest the end or bottom of the reelstrips.
Pull the reel connector out from uner the reel and slide out the reel assembly.
Place the reel sideways across in front of you on a table and feel carefully with your index finger and thumb for a small molded nib on the outside of the reel basket rims.
Read this part carefully... ...>>>

Those exterior raised molded nibs that you feel with your fingertips on the OUTSIDE of the reel basket rims, will coincide with molded nibs INSIDE the inside edge of the reel baskets, where the cut reelstrip notch will catch onto. 


If you STILL have the Code [42], you can test the door optics in the Output Tests #24.
You MUST get the door optics working or bypass them.

I pulled the reels and number 2 wasn't lined up with the nibs the tape fits inside the reel so I lined up the notches with the nibs reinstall and tried it again. Code 42 is still there and when I spin the reels in the diagnostic mode it shows code 41 and 43. I also removed the optics from the door and held it in front of the cabinet optics. No change.

Utilizing a cellphone camera, you can view the door emitter directly.
It will be slightly blue-ish in color if it's powered up and working.

First photo is a door emitter OFF.

I looked at the door transmitter with my camera and I see nothing no light. Where does it get its power from?

Did you check the door optics test in menu 10_1,   scroll to #13 close the door and see if the 1 toggles to a zero and back and forth, if not optics not working, machine will never work until this works.

Thanks Jim. I checked the optics in the diagnostic mode. They are not responding. I am going to check the wiring from the connector back to the mpu/motherboard.

Optics blow all the time, If expediency is of issue I would get a couple of sets on order so you have them around.

sounds as if you may have a bad board, do you have a spare to eliminate that as a possible problem??

mother board, optics replaced, alignment good, only board left to see if it could be something else??

I have tested boards available.
