you really can't proceed until you know what your problem is. you have to understand how to get into the diagnostic menus ,and use them to find out what  the status of your machine.   you can't trouble shoot the bill acceptor until you know for sure that's it's enabled, and that the limits are set, if either of these conditions are not met the bill acceptor will never attempt to accept bills!.

I am going to try and run the input and output test again tonight. I will see what that gets me. I feel pretty confident about the menus now. I have a few things I want to try tonight and I will let you know what i find out.
Thanks.

this may help clear up testing and menus: if the door is closed and the latch is down, you are in the game play mode, if you turn the jackpot reset key in this condition you will enter the book keeping mode, depending on the SP chip you will either have to turn it 8 times or 13 times to get through the book keeping mode to get back to the game play mode or the tilt condition that may exist.  when the door is open , you can enter the test mode by pressing the white test button one time, now if you refer to the flip cards, it will tell you what page (coins played window)  and what test you are doing(winner paid window) example if you pressed the test button three times and you see a "0" in the coins played window, and a 5_0or a -1 or a-2 in the winners paid window  you can scroll through that menu using the change button, each time you press the button you will see the numbers that correspond to the list on the flip card, this will take you to the 9_0 or a 1 that you are looking for, this test will end with the settings of the dip switch on the board. then you can move on to the input test, output test the audio test etc.

Hope this helps

Jim,
Ran through all the test and felt very confident that I was doing them correctly last night. This is what I found. The bill validator is enabled. Tired to disable, but could not which I believe is correct due to no having a set chip. I went to the input menu and ran the bill validator test and nothing happened when I tired inserting the dollar into the validator. The 0 did not change to 1 at all showing any input. I then went to the output test and ran that test as well. Nothing happened. I went through the whole PSR looking for anything that could be conflicting with the validator allowing it to run. I did not see anything.

Traced all wires and looked at the connections, shook, and reseated them. Not change. I followed the two wires from the DBV to the small board that controls the lights on the door for the DBV. The light do not come on at all on this board. I pulled the lights and looked at them, they look fine, no visible breaks in the filaments. So at this point, I have power at the DBV, and it runs the test cycle every time the machine is powered on. I took the compartment that holds the dollar bills out, and noticed the plate that slides back and forth to advance the money seemed a little sticky and may not have been re-seating itself all the way back. This would cause the optic in the rear of the container to be able to see the optic on the other side. I worked it back and forth a few times and then put in back in. It seems when seated correctly this would normally block the optic in the back.

So basically it seems like I have power, but no communication between the DBV and the machine. Please let me know your thoughts.

9_1 means the bill validator is enabled,  test #6 should have a number in the winner paid window, you should hear a click when you do this test and the number should not be able to be changed using the spin button.  test #7 and #8 should have the same value in the windows, I set that value to 1000.  test #27 (input test)  should light the lamps on the front bezel, you can test these in the socket where the denomination lamp (middle of reel glass) is, this socket has power to it when the machine is on.  when the bill acceptor cycles:  it should make two distinct sounds, the first sound is the cash can being reset ( rear white wheels of  the transport unit meshing with the gear on the cash can), the second sound is the gear on the black 200 head meshing with the top gears on the transport. there is a you tube video that shows this action along with the sounds.  make sure that J-6 on the motherboard has a connector plugged into it, if you follow the wiring it should terminate where the black power supply plug mates with the machine connector.   lastly, the switches on the bottom of the 200 head have to be set , switches in the first bank 1 through 10, they should all be in the off position. if all these conditions are met, something should happen when you insert a bill into the unit. if not, the 200 head can be tested outside the machine using the power supply from the machine. see the flip cards for the DBV-200,  stand alone test.  it explains exactly has to do this. another test , after the unit is turned  and it cycles, remove the cash can, the transport unit should start cycling, its looking for the cash can, it will cycle for about 10 times then stop, when you insert the cash can, it should see the can and go through a cycle and reset itself.

Hope this helps

Jim

You also need to make sure the bill validator is set to the right protocol for the S+
