Ceronix 1492 board removal in a PE+

need to get my 1492 ceronix board removed and repaired


I have the monitor out and some of the connections removed


See the pics below with questions


1 how does the black connector get removed? Haven't been able to budge it
2 do the pink wire and red and white wire get removed from where they are in the picture or somewhere else


Any other removal tips appreciated

Have you discharged the monitor yet?  That's crucial before you go any further.  Even with it disconnected from the machine, there's still a potentially deadly amount of voltage in there.  Please do a search (either here or on Google) for proper CRT discharging techniques and do that before you do anything else with the monitor.

Once you've discharged the CRT, the green circuit board (with the black ribbon cable on it) should come off by gently pulling on it, away from the screen -- you can do some very slight wiggling back and forth as you pull.  It looks like the black connector for the ribbon cable on the board has a little tab to push in to remove it from the board.

I don't think the red or white wires are designed to be disconnected from the flyback transformer.

That advice from knagl is very much correct. The crt can store inside itself as much as 1,000 volts per inch of diagonal size of the crt screen. For example, even after it is powered off a 15 inch monitor can have 15,000 volts or more inside of it. That black connector with the heavy wire is a direct connection to this voltage, that's why the connector is difficult to remove. Many techs slip a grounding probe up under the black rubber connector to touch the metal clip that is under there to discharge the voltage. Then they squeeze the nipple part of the black connector (the raised "bump" in the middle of the black connector) to compress the metal clip so it can be disconnected from the crt. The metal clip has a couple of prongs that slip inside a hole in the crt.
Be careful when doing this, send the wife, kids and pets out of the room first.    

Actually nearly anyone can do this, it's just that not everyone wants to after seeing what is involved. You have to be careful.

Picture below will show you an example of what is under the black rubber connector, it is called the anode connector. Yours will be similar:

Thanks for the warnings. Made a discharging tool and luckily there was no charge anyway. Chassis is removed from the monitor. Now I just need Ceronix to answer my email so I can send it back

I believe that if you check the Ceronix web site, they still offer to fix any out of warranty monitor for $50 and that includes return shipping.

I emailed Ceronix yesterday on their web site but they did not reply today

That sounds like a very reasonable price with return shipping included.

I sent in two 1492 Ceronix chassis a few months back. It was $65.00 each, plus I had to pay shipping both ways.

Still darn cheap compared to tech time or paying for a replacement out of pocket.

They don't sell any new 1492 chassis, and they said they were not sure how much longer they would be repairing them. I hope it's for a while yet, because I have two or three here that need work. I did by two 1492 chassis off Ebay about a month back that were pulled from IGT Poker machines. I don't know if the auctions still running. The seller said he had a few left when I bought mine. I think the seller is a NLG member..

Ceronix is always a bit slow in responding for some reason.


When we order parts from them to fix 1492 boards in our shop the order always starts with us having to leave a voice mail then waiting 2 to 4 days for a call back.

Their email responses also seem to take about that long.

Update on the board. Sent it to ceronix last week. Just received word that it is not repairable. Cost for an LCD replacement is 350. Not sure I want to put that much into it. Will post a WTB for a 1492 chassis.

We have all of the parts necessary to fix Ceronix boards.

I fixed 3 just today.
