O/S Confusion
« on: October 30, 2015, 09:21:18 PM »
Please help me get a grasp on something so I can stop playing the trial and error game.
We all know that in pretty much most cases, you can run the minimum required os version or higher version for a game as long as you stay in the same os Family. But, how can you determine which version of a particular os family is the minimum version that's compatible for a game? Here's an example:

Jungle Wild S759-000-1010B2 calls for a D1.3 Family os. I have many OS's that are in the D1.3 family. Most are 128mb versions but one is a 64mb. How do I know which version of D1.3 is the minimum version that is required for this game when the card just says "Family D1.3"? All of the versions below are D1.3 so how do I know which one to run? :banghead:   It's not like the H.xx family where you have a H9.22 then H9.23.
I have the following versions of D1.3:
  • SSOS 1811  that's a 64mb
  • SSOS 1840  that's a 128mb
  • SSOS 1850  that's a 128mb
  • SSOS 1860  that's a 128mb
  • SSOS 1873  that's a 128mb
  • SSOS1881   that's a 128mb

1881 would be the one I would use. I haven't ran BB1 games in a while, but when I do and play a D1.3 game, I always use the 1881 without any problems.

You are correct, on the older SSOS games it can be hard to tell what specific OS version goes to each game.

As Charles has indicated if you use the newest OS it ensures the games should play fine, I have never ran into an issue with a newer version not working.

I have a pretty good list of what version works for the games that I have if you have specific questions for a certain game I can check.

According to my database that should work with SSOS-000-1800 or higher.

I have GLI access at work; they give some info on software compatibilities as stated by the manufacturer.  That's the easiest way, aside from tracking down par sheets by manufacturers website.
