IGT PE Plus light bulb problem
« on: August 12, 2019, 07:50:38 AM »
3 light bulbs on the 3 center hold cancel buttons and the bet one credit button all quit working at once. Thought all the lights were wired in parallel. All the buttons work properly, just the light bulbs don't light. Any ideas on what is causing this, wouldn't think the 4 burned out at the same time? Attached a photo

The bulbs light up depending on the options presented.
Ie - in black jack you have hit, hold, split, double down. Not all are lit at the same time.
Generally in poker you keep or discard the card so all should be lit at least to start.
You are correct that they share a common ground wire and if the ground was disconnected the buttons would not work.

There are 3 wires to each button - one is the voltage for the light, the other is the button wire that gets shorted to ground.

I would pull the bulb out and measure the resistance. If its open the bulb is dead. If its not dead I would then measure the voltage wire.

It could be the holder - they are old and they tend to get brittle from the heat from the bulbs.
This is why many of the folks here have swapped them out for LEDs.
Often when they do this they also swap out the legends which have also yellowed from the heat.

Yes I understand. At the start of the hand, see my photo, all 5 hold/cancel lights should be lit, at the end of the hand bet one should be lit. Will remove some of the bulbs, since they all quit working at the same time thought it might be something simple that is common to ones that aren't lit. Anyone have a light bulb schematic for the machine?

There should be a PE manual in the download section.

get into the test section of the machine, there   is a test to check every light bulb, it will instruct you to push the correct button to light the bulbs,  you have to advance through the test menu to get to the test, I believe those are all tested at once,  one side of the bulb has 7vac common going to all the lamps, it comes from TB6 pin 2,  the 7vac hot signal comes from the board, its probably that wire that serves the 7vac hot that is loose on one of the lamp sockets or at the cpu board plug, trace it back to the plug.

I agree that it's suspect that a bunch of bulbs simultaneously went out, but have you tried moving one of the known good bulbs to one of the three middle hold buttons to see if it lights? ...and/or moving one of the dark bulbs to Hold 1 or 5 to see if the bulb works there?

They're all connected by a common ground wire in the harness.

I'd check the wiring and the lamps as well.

Thanks for the ideas. I think it is something more than the 4 bulbs burning out at once. But will look into to that too, when I get the time. I have a manual, skimmed through it, didn't notice a schematic for the lights but will look back through it again when I get a chance. Will post a follow up.
