Your 2 code could be a 12 code on a very low battery.

If it was a 12, the "2" shouldn't be in the right-center position on the display.  A 12 error isn't centered within the display.   :propeller:

There were quarters in the hopper which I wasn't aware of until after. I removed them all. I'm not computer savvy enough to do much more than I have at this point. I've checked all connections. I'm trying to find someone to come look at it. Thanks everyone for the help.

If you update your profile as to your location one of the members living close to you can probably help.

You can pick up a multi-meter for <$20 at Radio Shack and test the battery voltage.

Pictures of your display will help us etc.

Yep I am old ish.

"ish"?? hah! Just a pup.

Still, it is sad to see that electronics today are nothing more than disposable, outdated in 6 months lifespan, appliances.  The Heathkit concept was a learning experience (and fun) that kids today will never know!

Sorry.. there is a reason I chose my handle, I tend to do that..  When I was your age....  oh, NM back to the topic at hand.

There were quarters in the hopper which I wasn't aware of until after. I removed them all.

Chances are, then, that there could be quarters under the motherboard and/or inside the power supply causing all sorts of havoc.  Unplug the machine, then remove the MPU board (the board in the back of the machine in the silver enclosure with the black knob on it -- lift up to unplug it from the motherboard, then towards you to remove the board).  You'll want to look for any coins in there, and you may need to unscrew the screws holding the fixed motherboard to the bottom of the machine to inspect under there for any loose coins or other metal (washers, etc) that could be causing a short.

You can also remove the cover of the power supply and visually look for any loose coins in there.  To be safe, I would suggest using a plastic or wooden dowel to remove coins from the power supply area, just in case there is any stray voltage remaining after the machine has been unplugged.

So I'm getting very frustrated at this point. I spoke with someone on the phone and he had me put the hopper in but not all the way and the number changed to 0 on the left side of the winner paid area but the candle up top does not light up since I brought it home. When I push the hopper all the way in it goes back to the 2 in the middle and the reels spin backwards. He has never heard of all this either on this machine and he works on them. To have come out to the house will cost 400.00 plus parts. Thinking I may have to take a large hit. Not sure how much I want to put into the machine since I paid quite a bit for it. Ugh!

If you want to get your machine working, lets go back and start all over! make sure the board in inserted correctly, make sure any connections you have undone are back where they belong and inserted correctly.don't worry about the bill acceptor, don't worry about the candle.
check the cash can door switch, make sure it is bypassed.
open door and apply power, see what happens, what should happen, all fluorescent lamps should be on, the reels should have spun, locking up in order from right to left., and now sitting idle!.  check and see if the reels are locked in place (not spinning freely when you try and move them.
locate the small white push button on the optic board, (directly beneath the cc-16 coin comp. bottom left next to the connector)  push this button and see if it will put a credit on the machine. if it puts a credit on machine, pull handle or press the spin button. see what happens.

do these items and report what is going on.

Jim. Where is the cash can door switch? I can't find anything telling me where it is or how to bypass it. You are dealing with a woman who can usually fix anything if I have a good manual or video. The manual I have doesn't have any diagrams which is very frustrating. Thanks

Garken, the cash door switch (if hooked up) will be two green wires going into the cash drawer holder. If there no wires going in they may already stripped and tied together. Here's a pic of one of mine with the wires still hooked up. You can cut the wires and strip the ends and twist them together. Put a little tape on. This is the inside of the cash door.

Looks like they have already been bypassed. That's good. One less hassle.

Now when I turn it on the only thing working are the fluorescent lights. Reels are not spinning. No 2 in winner paid.

But I think a do over would be good. Too much information. Jim wants to get a fresh start on this and that's good.

Okay all the boards are back in? Everything is as you started? If so, now we can start anew with this symptom. This is symptomatic of that white molex connector Rokgpsman showed a picture of early in the post. Power off, pull the hopper and check the back side of that plug. Let's start where we are at right now.

I put everything back and powered up. The reels are not spinning freely. I pushed the white button and no credit is given.

You won't be able to get a credit from the coin comparator without the machine going through the maiden spin and at least acting like it's ready to play.

Reels not spinning freely, does that mean they are stiff and won't spin by hand or do not spin to start the boot cycle?

White plug looks good and reels spin but not freely.
