Did you push the white button on the inside of the door by the CC16 comparator or the white button on the inside of the machine.

The one you need to press is inside the door by the CC16

Thanks for all your help! I really appreciate it. The man I spoke with called IGT because he was stumped. He has been really nice not wanting to come all the way here and charge me if he couldn't fix it. IGT is going to call him back and let me know what to do. I might have to send them the mpu.

Yeah, I don't think IGT is going to touch that. They don't deal with us home owned game people. They won't even talk to us on the phone. Their interest is in Casino's. They really don't care about an Mpu that hasn't been made for 20 years. Check your fuses. And are both the fluorescent lights coming on? If not unplug the two starters and try it then. Sounds dumb but those things can screw up an S+. Here's a pic of the fuses. Best checked with a meter.

Dave. My fuses have nothing near them. How do you check them with a meter? Sorry if this sounds stupid.

And as a side note, the man who said he spoke with IGT and said they would call him back is likely full of crap and stalling for time. As stated above, IGT won't help with your problem, other than to crush your machine if they could, lol

First off I am going to encourage you to stick with this and we will make a slot tech out of you yet.....

A multi-meter has several different settings.

You want to put it on Resistance (R1K) or something like that. Any of the resistance settings will do. You are not actually measuring resistance, just if there is continuity or not. First you start out and touch the two meter probes together the meter should go all the way over and show connectivity. This basically proves the meter works and that you have it on the right setting.

When you take the fuse out you put the meter at each end of the fuse. If the fuse is good the meter should go all the way over as it has connectivity.

If it doesn't move the fuse is dead and needs to be replaced.
These are glass tubes so sometimes you can see a burn mark in the centre or that the filament is broken..... and sometimes it looks perfectly good.
Its the ones that look perfectly good that can screw you up.....

It sounds like you are dealing with someone that has a slot route or is a casino tech - who might have connections within IGT.
IGT does not want to deal with home people. In their words "the workings of a slot machine are restricted information" and that is the reason that this forum exists.
IGT/Bally/WMS has a  fear is that someone is going to hack a machine and exploit it in a casino.

Before you spend $400 to get someone to your home most of the vendors on the home page could send you another MPU board for under $50 or Fleabay.
4 or 5 screws and one molex connector and you move the MPU to your tray. Then there will be 2 chips that you will move from one MPU to another.
We can deal with moving the chips as necessary. Heck for $400 usd you could fly someone in from Canada.

My suspicion is that you have a coin or two stuffed under your mother board (the board that the MPU plugs into) which might explain the weird error code.
This may also have popped a fuse.

With the machine off I would remove the hopper, look under the small fixed board (the motherboard) and ensure there are no coins under it. A small flashlight and an emery board (non metal) would be a good to fish out any loose things under there.

Need more information,  since you said the machine did work, what happened from the time it worked and the time it started to act up??  tell all the details, the smallest item could be important,  you also said you reset the machine, how did you do this?

I agree with that.  IGT won't talk to anyone other than casino technicians about machine repair, and they do not support the S+ machines any more (nor have they for years).

On top of that, $400 for a repair visit is ridiculous.  You can get a working S+ machine for less than that, and you can replace all of the parts in your machine for far less than that.  Do not agree to pay him $400 for a housecall.  In fact, based on his claim that he spoke to someone at IGT about your machine, don't pay him anything -- he's a liar.

Ok guys. I have looked under the mother board. There is a cushion under it and no quarters I can see. Haven't taken it off though. I took out the fuses and the top one is definitely bad. Will stop and get some on my way home from work. Fingers crossed that I get lucky! Thanks. Thinking I will know almost all there is to know about slot machines by the time we are finished!👍🏻

Ok guys. Changed the fuse. Turned the machine on and it worked for a minute. Reels spun forward and insert coin came on. It blinked cash out which I pushed because it said 2 in winner paid. It paid out the 2 coins. I put a coin in then everything went off again and reels starting spinning backwards again. Self test wouldn't work. Turned it off and took out top fuse and it was blown again. Should I take off the top of the main power and look for quarters there?

Great - we are getting someplace.

The fact that it worked for a while then blew would seem to indicate that you probably don't have a direct short. A direct short would pop the moment the power came on or the moment the slot did something like spin the reels.

1. Check the value of the fuse against the label on the fuse holder. The one you put in might be a 2A because the one you took out was a 2A. The fuse holder might have a 4a on it. Meaning you had the wrong fuse in the holder.

2. You might have put in a regular fuse when a slow blow style is required. Check and see if slo-blo or SB is stamped on the original fuse or if it appears to have a wider filament than the one you replaced it with.

3. It would take nothing for someone put on a 2a lid on the fuse holder simply to replace a missing part. When that should have a lid labeled like 10a. Which fuse is it ? we can check our manuals and ensure you are using the correct fuse for the location.

I would start looking for some coins lodged up against the handle solenoid contacts and the metal machine case.  sounds as if when you establish a credit it blew the fuse, the 24 vac fuse, which is the voltage put to that solenoid  when it is told to energize the coil.

I have looked everywhere! Found no quarters. I found a screw by taking a picture in the back right hand corner of machine but not sure this would blow the fuse. Jim I don't know where the solenoid is.

the solenoid is located on the back top of the handle mech. there is a two pin connector going to it. its connections are right up against the back of the metal cabinet. that's where the coins will be if that is the problem.

Jim. The picture I posted of the screw was in the top right of the machine near the handle mechanism. I removed it. I have to get another fuse. Could this be what was blowing the fuse? I'll let you know if this was it! Thanks so much!
