Double Diamond S
« on: March 13, 2018, 08:40:06 PM »
I have the opportunity to buy an old double diamond 2 quarter "S" slot machine. I see very few posts about this machine but heard parts are hard to find. I currently have a Double Diamond S+ and Information and parts are abundant for it. Any recommendations on the purchase.  its only 50 bucks. Thanks

Welcome to NLG. Some parts are hard to find. Some parts are interchangeable between the 2 machines. If the board is ruined you may have some trouble. Is it complete? Does it work? Power it up and see what happens. If it's been under water or some thing like that, you don't want it. If you are familiar with your S+, the S isn't that much different. And in some ways easier. I would like to have one to learn all the ins and outs of the machine. We have some members with quite a bit of knowledge about them. And vendors who fix boards also. I can't make your decision. If you like to tinker with the machines, it looks good, is complete, shows no water damage and powers on I'd buy it for $50. I know how long $50 lasts in a casino. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Take a good look inside the S machine and evaluate what it might take to get it running. Look at the major parts like the mpu board, hopper, power supply, coin comparitor, reels and strips. Watch out for stuff like missing parts, extensive rust, wiring harnesses chewed by mice or cut by previous owners, glass that is cracked, chips gone from sockets on the mpu board, battery damage to the mpu board. Find out what you can about it from the seller but remember they may not tell you everything. Plug it in and see what happens. Before you go to look it over make a little list of stuff to check, that way you won't skip something important.

For $50 you won't get taken bad if it's a basket-case, but you want to avoid the frustrating aggravation of major work and buying lots of parts.

If you've ever bought a used car then be thinking about how that process goes.  :odie:
