IGT S+ Dead Battery Code 12. Can't pass
« on: December 12, 2023, 09:43:30 PM »
I replaced the battery and when I tried to reset and get the system to initialize, it doesn't initialize. After turning the power off and on. The code 12 is still there. I checked the battery voltage and its around 3.5 v Using the reset key, it would go through different setting. Pushing the white button next to the power switch would cycle through different options. I can't figure how to get it to initialize after the battery change. It doesn't give the code 61 like most battery change procedure. Don't know if I need to go to setting and set it to initialize? Need advice

You didn't solder it on backwards did you?

If it's displaying the 12 error, it's not detecting the voltage from the battery. Either it's backwards as sixcardmark suggested, or the solder joint didn't take, or possibly the MPU board has further issues. There is no procedure to clear the 12 error other than changing the battery -- it has to detect a full battery to not show that error.

The battery is soldered in the correct position and checked for voltage signal to the connections on the board. Do you know what the dip switch setting is for and what is the default setting?

What circuit logic does it detect the battery level? Can it be traced on the board?

When I changed the battery and power up the unit it displayed 12. If I turned the key this is the cycle and goes back to 12. If I press the white button near the power switch, then it would cycle to a different menu.

There should be a chart on the MPU tray describing the dip settings.  They have nothing to do with a code 12 low battery.

I'm a newbe but I'm also an electrician. Did you read voltage on the back of the board? These are double circuit boards and it is possible that the connection isn't making it all the way through or battery is no longer making a connection when the board is in place.
Working on an IGT S Plus machine.
Not working lights up no display reels have tension when powered up. Manuals are in the mail.

I checked and it's making contact on both sides of the board. Don't know if I need a new MPU

I've had this happen to me before and it turned out to be a bent pin on the MPU where you push down the MPU on the motherboard. Used a pair of tweezers to straighten it.
