Reel Removal
« on: May 04, 2018, 03:53:17 PM »

I need to pull the rightmost reel to get my meters installed.  I tried working the connector off but that boy is on there.  Before I went nuts on it, I figured I'd better ask.

Do the reel connectors have any sort of latching or are they just the usual pull-apart Molex connector?

Some connectors have a latching feature but it should be self-evident as there is usually some type of clasp on the side. Might just be tight from all the years. You could try disconnecting the reel #1 or #2 connectors just to see if they are easier and are not latched together. If so then reel #3 should be the same way. I've had to wiggle old Molex connectors off a little at a time, first one side then the other.

Example of one type of connector latching method:

Push the reel backwards to start, reach under and grab by plastic connector, not the wires, maybe a side to side giggle and then after connector is out the reel will slide out forward (No latching lock on S+)

As Blueridgeslots mentioned push back 1st then pull down really really  hard. If they haven't been off in sometime they can be a sob to get loose.

Thanks guys.  It's definitely on there so I just wanted to be sure it wasn't a latching type.  Time for some serious muscle I guess...
