IGT S+ Strange Issue
« on: April 21, 2024, 03:50:38 PM »
I keep getting a 61code that wont clear. Push button, no ding, nothing. However, Since I have a few of these ( 3 slant tops and 1 upright ) I pulled a board out of another machine and it did the 61 code with a successful Ding and went to play like normal. Any ideas guys?

Thanks in advance.

Try a different but compatible SP chip or use a clear chip.
Quality doesn't cost. It pays.

You might try taking your mis-behaving board and try it in another s+ and see if the problem follows the board.

The clear chip would be my goto.
I might also suspect that one of the pins in either the game or reel is bent under or simply not in the socket properly.

Since you have several S+ s I would also swap in a different set of game/reel chips and see if it works as it is possible that you have a bad chip.

Although you were successful once, I am suggesting holding the little white Test button in for about 3 seconds....not just a momentary "push"?

Sorry for the late update, I did pull a board from another slant and it worked no problem, dropped the other one back in and tried all the game chips I have and still 61 wont ding press button ( white ) count to 5, and it just stays on 61. Did a RAM clear and ended up with the same results. Used other reel chips I have and still the same thing. I do have a 16MHz board` (Bran stinkin new, I bought it way way back when I first started fixing slots to be used as a backup. Ebay seller didnt list the MHz but back then I probably wouldnt have noticed anyways, I did some reading an found it the 16's used a special SP chip, I found one but but my bubble was quickly popped when none of the games Im running now and 2 in boxes ( glass, reel strips and chips but nothing I have was listed ) would with the chip I have,  and if its the board like I thought it might be,  cant be shipped where I live now. At least that was the " rules " in Ebay 3 years ago. Does anyone here have a 10MHz they wouldn't mind shipping here? Been here since 6/20 just when all the covid crap began and so far, there hasn't been any house to house search warrents looking for illeagal slot machines but yet they have 4 differen dailyt draw number lotterys 3 to 4 time EVERYDAY.  Tennessee.... /me screams.

Slots are illegal - not boards, Simply ship it as electronic board. Even a slot running on tokens or free play could be called an animated lamp, no accounting for taste.

People get past gun laws by shipping parts around all the time. Not that I recommend nor condone it. BTW I am Canadian and we have strict gun ownership laws here (no handguns allowed).

16mhz uses a different game chip, as the volume control is software and not a physical dial like on the 10mhz boards.
The other thing to note is that the chips - both the game and SP chip have to be faster.
The "original" SS (reel chips) are usually too slow and you had to get special versions for the 16mhz board.

If you burn your own chips - all the modern blanks are about 2x-3x faster than the min required by these things so that is never a worry.

Well it been weeks since I messed with it but today, however, it went a little farther. For some reason I was finally able to get the ding which set a 61.1. now since all my craptops are set or freeplay, I had to enable the optics on this one and when i turned the, holding my %&**&%% breath, it hits a 53-3. Now the strange thing now it, no matter what reels or game chip I used, it did the exact same thing everytime. I was never worrried about the laws here but in Ebay's case, if a seller does do it, he/her will have to answer to it. Ebay's always been good to me as far as getting what I needed.  Thanks for the input all. Hey Jay, I have 4 skill slots ( grand kids love ummmm, but not so much when they hit a bonus mode.)

Going to this link I've attached for you below, will give you an idea what SP chips your 16Mhz board can use...>>>

https://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=303.0

SP1272 was a popular choice among members here, for a 16Mhz... it needs uses a SET88 though - for enabling the DBV.

I'd contact member RB, for chips.

Are you sure it's displaying 53-3? That's not an S+ error code.

If it's a 65-3, that's to be expected in your scenario. The S+ errors page lists the resolution for that message:

Has anybody mentioned that a persistent 61 error can also be caused by a defective 24C04 EEPROM mounted on the backplane?
This is why the board worked fine in another game. And why the board mostly worked in the original game when put back in.
Some of the second game settings on the board stuck in memory when the board was returned.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

I actually went back and ran it again yes I made a mistake, it was a 65-3. I found a game prom that I hadnt tried yet and this did something weird too, well, ive seen it before but that was many moons ago. It cleared the 61-1 and then the reels did some funky kinda dance and dropped a 41 on me. @Knagl forgot to mention with the 65.3 error I was able to change it to 65-1. Then the cycle retured this time without the 41. @Bunker I do have the sp1048, sp575, sp1131 and a sp1311. I also have the reset and BV chips. One of those SP chips is suppose to work with 5 times play 3 coin type 5 but not sure about the others. reel proms I have not being used are Wild Cherry 2 coin type 0, 5 times pay 2coin type 0, Wild diamonds 3 coin type 0 and last but not least, balloon bars 3 coin type 1. Would any of these work in the 16MHz board. If ANYONE has the correct SP chip(s) that'll work with the reel list above, lets talk plz.

SP1048 is a 10Mhz chip.
I don't know right now what SP575 is used for....I don't see a PSR sheet for SP575 in the NLG File System...a PSR sheet for SP574 says it's for a 10Mhz MPU... that's an old one anyhow.
SP1311 is a 10Mhz tournament chip...won't work.

A PSR sheet was never located for the SP1131 chip.
The PSR sheet for the SP1135 chip DOES say that it requires a 16Mhz MPU...so I don't know.... I'd try it with any of your SS reel chips.
If the reels spin really slow, it won't hurt anything...you'll just know then it's for a 10Mhz board.
You'll have take it out and locate another chip - such as the SP1272 I suggested.

Your SS reel chips will work on any MPU... 10Mhz or 16Mhz boards, but not the SP chips.
See if member RB can get you an SP1272 chip...you'll thank us later... lol

65-3, 65-1 are CMOS memory errors.

If you go from a 1271 (newer) to a 731 (older) chip in an Splus - you typically get a 65-3 error.
In correcting this, by pressing the white test button it basically reformats the CMOS in the correct format and then your moved to the 65-1, then a 61, before it becomes a 61-1 and then totally cleared.
You sometimes get this going from the 731 to the 1271.  In the older game chip you had optional music for the WIN sounds for some game themes but this was stripped away when the gaming regulators wanted more counters etc which is where the 1271 came as an upgrade.

The 1272 is basically the same as a 1271 but made for the 16mhz board and it has all the volume controls that the 10mhz chips don't support.
IF you don't have the right game chip for a 16mhz board you wont get very far at all. When you get this chip - also get a SET 88 chip as you will need to use that to activate your bill validator and you probably want a compatible clear chip too.  The clear chip is only used to bring the system back to factory, and its not very common to use but you should have it. Typically shipping is more expensive than the chips so if your getting 1 chip get all three.

The 41 error is a reel error. (41 reel 1, 42 reel 2, 43 reel 3) it means that something has impaired the spin of the reel. Technically its called a reel-tilt error. In this case I suspect that this is a kind of a phantom error and I would not worry about it until you have the right game chip in place. It doesn't take much to cause an error 41, and unless there is something really wrong with the reel its also easy to clear.
