I seem to recall hearing that those games want to print the meter readings every time the door is opened, so if you're able to reconnect the printer, that might get you past that screen....

Eliminated the Montana chips - and consentrated on "unkown" game chips i got with my 2nd board - get into some menus but can't seem to proceed.

Well, that's one of a possible few different Multi-Poker chipsets.  That page is expected if you turn the jackpot reset key.  You'll need to tell us exactly what happens when you first power up the machine (without turning the key or doing anything else), so we can help you get it up and running.

If you get an error message upon power-up (a "CALL ATTENDANT" screen), follow the steps I provided in Reply #17 and that should get you past the error messages.

press test - get CHIME
close door - turn key - nothing changes
 
check the 2nd image in my prior post - shows game info and 'garbage"  - something must be corrupted.


as some point in all of my board and chip exchanging I - got to the IO test and the optics were testing okay.

I have several cmos chips 5564  which matches the schematic.
also have 58257ap10

When you close the door, does the "Door Open" message go away?  If not, that's going to be your issue.  If the machine doesn't detect the door being closed, it won't continue past the error when you turn the jackpot reset key.

i use a optic jumper cord - that I use on my s+ i can switch from open to close - so it is not the optics themselves - there is a bv unit on the machine - uses a cherry switch - checked that out as well - wiring to mother board plugs for the optic is good - so problem must be in the Mother board or cpu or

I take it, then, that the "Door Open" message isn't going away, as I asked in Reply #28?

I'm not a huge fan of bypassing the door optics.  The PE+ optics are pulsed -- not sure how they react to just being shorted together.  Do you have a set of known good actual optics you can install to see if that gets the machine to see that the door is closed?

The OPTICS are good - I used my jumper cord (not a bypass) that I can via cherry switch - open/close door thereby BYPASSING THE OPTICS - at some point in trying different combo of boards and chips I did get a test menu that SHOWED THE OPTICS WORKING!!!! I have eliminated the Montana configuration from my board swapping.  There all several wiring mods in the game that MAY have had something to do with the Montana game. I feel my problem is in the motherboard -changed out the cmos on that board and not sure if I had a good 27c04 to start with - getting a new batch and will retry.

For those who still feel it is my optics - I installed them in a S+ and they worked - so it is not the optics or my special jump cord.. With the symptom being in 2 different cpu -one cpu which HAD the montana game - WAS WORKING - the 2nd board was unknown condition - I am going to change out the eeprom on the mother board as soon as my replacements arrive.
