Touchscreen communivation Failure ( GK)
« on: September 04, 2014, 09:58:43 AM »
Hi,

The title says it all.

When it comes to the calibration, I am requested to Touc the dot until a tone is heard, but there is no dot.

I read an old post that mentioned a possible Netplex issue so I disconnected the Ticket Printer as well as the bill acceptor. There are actually no bill acceptor but I disconnected all the cables that were linked to the machine.

I tried a ram clear but to no avail.

Please help if you can....

Thanks

If you get a touchscreen communications failure there may be an issue with the connection to the touchscreen controller.  Do you have an LCD or a CRT monitor.  Some IGT machines have the touchscreen controller as a separate board alltogether.  I have found them to be kind of static sensitive and easily zapped.  My bet is the board is bad.  It is a nexplex device, so something in the chain could be affecting it.  Some common netplex devices on a GK:

Spectrum display (if you have a progressive, though rare on gamekings).
Bill Validator
Ticket Printer
Touchscreen.

Also there's a monitor/touchscreen cable in the mainboard.  Just check the connector to make sure it is all the way in, and then trace it and look for broken wires and such.  Ideally you could get another monitor and replace the entire assembly to test.

Hi,

Thanks for your help.

It is a CRT monitor.  I have removed the whole BA assembly , Ticket printer is disconnected, both plugs...

I'll have the touchscreen controller checked today.    That machine comes from a friend of mine who said that he had tested other monitors and tat they all showed the same tILT...

I'll let you know what happens...

If they all showed the same issue, I would test another netplex device to see if there's an issue with netplex.  The problem with a touchscreen issue is that it is impossible to do anything with the diagnostics as they all use the touchscreen.  I would swap MPU's with a known good one to rule that part out.

 News

I noticed that on my another gK, the touchscreen controller lit ( red bulb) whereas on the machine with the tilt it didn't.

I swapped the monitors: same result.

That means no power goes to the touchscreen controller...

I swapped the power supplies: same result.

Where do you think I should take a look please?

Thanksss

There is a harness that provides the 12 volt supply for the touchscreen controller.  It is a molex connector on the motherboard and I believe it is even labeled CRT/Touchscreen.  I don't have the machine in front of me, so I don't know the connector number, but should be easy enough to trace by following the wires that come out of the beauplug connector for the monitor.

Hi,

Thanks.

If you could make a pic of that cable it would be very useful.

These two pins provide power to the touchscreen controller.  They are in J5 in my enhanced board.

If you have a meter, you can see if you are getting 12 volts out of the red/black wires.  Most of the time, it is the wire harness that has an issue.  Also trace the black and red wire to the beau plug where the monitor plugs in, then check for continuity to the molex plug.  Since you say you have tried other monitors with same result, it is most probably something with your cabinet wiring.

 Solution found

I swapped a known working back board, power then came to the touchscreen controller. The back board was defective, I'll try to find another one.

Thanks for your help.
