hi all
game king has flashing red light and screen shows colored squiggly lines, anyone have any ideas?

Open the door and take a picture of the inside of the machine and we can tell you. It has to be under 1MB in file size to post, so resize as necessary to get it under that limit.

Pics are good thanks. You have a 17" GK cabinet with a 3902 MPU. The blinking red light on the MPU board indicates it is not booting up. Usually it's one of three things that cause it. Bad MPU, bad software, or bad power supply.

What is the history of the machine? Has it ever worked? I see an I/O card and part of a player tracking panel laying in the bottom as well as a lot of dirt/dust. Makes me think it came out of storage somewhere and you're trying it for the first time?

Do you have a multimeter and know how to use it? First thing to do is check out the power supply voltages.

Next would be to take some compressed air and clean up the MPU board and reseat the software chips/simm cards. They are the ones with the hand written labels on them. There's one under the sound card (daughter board that sits on top of the MPU board).

well my friend you hit everything spot on,i bought 4 from a guy in sacramento who got them from indian casinos from texas, they were in a body shop and some kid i'm assuming he had tweek written all over him, says he didn't touch them, that was a lie. i was thinking the software myself power supply tests good and i wouldn't know what to test on the board. i bought 4 cabinets 3 WMS and the IGT i got 2 BB1 and 1BB2 with dragons realm, got that one fired up but it needs batteries and monitor, I parted out this one was like a huge console slant thing, so anyway my buddy is in vegas picking up machines i think, he may have some of the stuff i need, oh yeah I paid $350.00 for the four.

well you've given me something to start with and i really appreciate your knowledge, i'll keep updating the progress, also like i said i'm just getting in to it and put together 2 game kings and a bally game maker, sold the kings and have the maker for sale and a really cool wms stepper ruby ring , this thing has a huge topper on it and it just runs perfect.

Well for the price you certainly can't complain! Good thing is all the 3902 GK parts are readily available and pretty cheap if you end up needing any. Good luck!

what about the dip switches on the 3 sim cards how should they be set and in what order do they go?

There should be a CGF SIMM card below that sound card. It looks like the other two, but is wider and doesn't have any DIP switches.

The DIP switches on the PXL SIMMs depend on the SIMM size and how many there are. The one on the MML2 (Sound board) should all be off. If they were set wrong the machine would still boot up to a point and then give an error message telling you what the problem is. They are probably set correctly. When you get the MPU to boot it will let you know if there is a problem with them.

You had another Game King in the picture. Do you have Key 22 or Key 40? If so, remove the base chip, put the keychip in and see if it boots to the keychip menu or not.

yes i have the 22, i used it a few times setting up the game kings i sold, i put the 22 chip in and could barely see but i did get to the setup point but when i went to lock in yes and move down the list there was not an attendant key switch so i just tapped the two together to move on but i cant see anything now. i think i have the dips right on the simm pxl and the one for sound and yes there was a bigger one underneath the media board but there is a empty slot under the board i sent a pic, is that supposed to be empty? if i still had the other cabinets here i wouldn't have so many questions

When you say you can't see anything do you mean because the monitor is too dim?

What is the game title supposed to be do you know?

Older game software uses EPROMs instead of a CGF SIMM card. It's one or the other though, so if you have a SIMM card the two eprom sockets under it will be empty.

the game i believe is something called mermaid and the board has 3 sim cards 2 on the main board 1 on the multimedia board and then a bigger one underneath and here is a pic on the monitor, thats why i can't see it

Ok, so the gray pixelated screen remained with Key 22 in it. I was hoping it would go away and you'd see a normal key 22 keychip menu. Try removing all the game software and using just Key 22 in it and see what that does.

If it's mystical mermaids one SIMM card should be ON ON ON OFF and the other OFF ON ON ON (SW1 -> SW4). The SIMM card on the sound card should all be off.

okay, pulled the base chip and game chips and put in the clear 22 chip and the screen cleared powered down put the base chip back in and it went to the way it was, so i'm taking it that the base chip is bad and how would i know if the game chips are good
