Replacing battery on IGT game king
« on: December 17, 2023, 01:36:12 PM »
Hi guys,
I just got the message that my battery is low and need an attendent to reset the machine.
Do i have to desolder the battery from the bottom? I wasn't able to get the board out.
What kind of screwdriver do I need for the top left screw?
Will I lose my game settings and need a keychip to setup the machine again?
Also if so do you know which keychip number I need?
Also how long do these batteries last on average?
Is there someone is in vegas I can take my board to have them resolder the battery for me?

Thank You

Yes, the battery has to be desoldered from the bottom.  Best thing to do is solder in a coin cell holder then in the future you can replace it without doing any soldering.  Personally I upgrade all my 3902 boards to use CR2354 batteries.  They'll last longer, but even if you use a standard cr2032 battery you'll be good for another few years.

You will lose some of your settings when changing the battery so you'll want a keychip too.   I can't make out the numbers on your EPROM set in the picture, but based on the fact it's all EPROM chips Key 17 is probably what you need.

Contact Alan (NLG username Badbaud) with KLAR electronics.  They're in Vegas and I'm sure he can take care of replacing the battery for you or guide you to someone local who can.  They have a banner ad on the home screen.  You can't sent him a Private Message until you have 5 posts here first, so call the shop or see if he sees this and responds.

Thank you for all the info. Here is a better picture of the board. I am having a hard time removing the top left screw. is it a special screwdriver or a really thin standard flathead?

It's just a peg. Squeeze it with a needle nose or just work the board over it. There are two of them.

I will try with my needlenose plier. it seemed like the peg was larger than the hole and wouldn't come out. If the peg doesn't come out, ill try squeezing it to get the board out. Thank you.

The peg doesn't come out.  You lift the board up and over it.  Some type of a small hook to get under the board and lift it straight up works too, just be careful not to damage traces on the backside of it.

Your game software is GK4.3 and uses Key 17.
