Igt game king identification

Just got a new non working machine and know nothing about these igt machines.  Can anyone help me identify just what I have ?   I’m hoping it has keno or the ability to add caveman keno on it.  Any help is appreciated.

It's a Game King with a 044 MPU board.  I can't make out much more than that from the pics posted.  There's Game King packages that have Poker, Keno, Blackjack, Video slots, etc.  What's the number on the flash card (daughter board mounted on top of the MPU board)?  I can look it up and tell you what it is, providing it hasn't been re-flashed.

What does it do when you plug it in and turn it on? 

Make sure not to remove or install any components with the power on as you check things out.

Thank you for that.  I haven’t tried to turn it on due to there may have water that got in it.  I’ve removed all the boards as I want to check all the components and their values under the microscope, check for shorts etc.  The owner said “it doesn’t work”.  So i don’t wanna make anything worse lol

Looks to be hand written GK 6.0

I think it reads GK002964 which is Aztec Temple.  The handwritten numbers do look like 6.0, so it could have been reflashed to that.  Only way to know for sure is power it up and see.

Possibly Game King 6.2 if it was reflashed and whoever did it labeled it with a handwritten 6.2 instead of making a new label for it.

Understood,  do you know if these igt machines require a clear chip like the Ballys ones? If so do you know which one id need to source?

Yes, for 044 with a flash board Key 28.  However, you're better off getting a GKDEV39 (Developer's) bootchip for it.  It has built in Key functions and also allows you to bypass some security checks so the game loads much faster.  Yours may already have one installed, but again, it's not labeled well (the 40 pin EPROM on the flashcard) so it's hard to tell until you are ready to power it up.

Appreciate the reply, a member did reach out about one of those.  This chip has a “clear door” in the middle of it. There are numbers on it (factory numbers) under the sticker.

It's an EPROM (erasable programmable read only memory) chip.  The window is there so you can erase it with a UV eraser.  The factory numbers you're referring to are on the chip itself and shows information such as the manufacturer, date code, part number, size, and speed.  A common EPROM for Base chips and Keychips is 27C4002.

The numbers I'm looking for are not the EPROM part numbers, but the game software numbers.  Your bootchip isn't an original one and whoever programmed it didn't put a legible label on it so you know what it is.    Those numbers can be found in the machines software menu once you get it running.

This is where I’m at.  I know the battery was bad when I had the mpu out.  This had a bent pin on the mpu causing a short.  Appears I’ve really lucky I guess lol. Not sure the error here besides the battery error. The bv had an error but with some love the went away now.

Beings it’s showing key chip needed I don’t have that gkdev39 installed? I’m assuming i need a battery change and a clear then setup to be working?

GK3319 is Superstar Poker, probably the most popular 044 title there is.  You have a regular bootchip (GKB0034) on your flash card.  Contact member RB and get the developer's boot chip. 

Battery is a CR2354.  The main battery low should clear when you replace it.  Note too that is is a hard error, the machine will not be playable until it's replaced.  The options verification required is an informational message letting you know that system options may have changed.  In this case due to the low battery.  When the main battery low message is cleared that will be the only error message you'll have and an OK box will appear under it.  Touch that and it will go away.

It's looking like there wasn't much wrong with the machine other than the main battery being low?

Thanks for that and the good news, I just don’t get the concept of the other chip and how it works.  I know with the Bally alpha I have, it needs the game card back in to play following the clear/reset etc. And yeah the battery was less than 0.2v, I cleaned the corrosion off the boards and fixed a bent pin on the mpu that was causing a short.  The casing is in bad condition from the water damage but I’d call myself very lucky.  We’ve been looking for this exact machine forever but they’ve been so expensive. Nothing lower than 1500 around me.

Normally you would need a key28 in order to clear and "key" the machine.  When you "key" the machine, it allows you to make changes to protected areas that would normally not be allowed like TITO settings.  You can clear and/or key the machine as selected on they key chip menus (although you can only key the machine when there are no credits present, clear will work any time).  When you do just a clear but not a key, you will be able to setup paytables, denominations, and enable validator, printers, etc.  What you can't do without doing a key is setup the communication parameters, which are important if you setup the machine for TITO.

The boot chip is like a Bios chip essentially, containing the necessary things to get the boot process going.  Most of the operating logic on these is on the flashboard.  After you key/clear the machine, you put back the boot chip.

The Dev39 chip replaces both the boot and the key chip.  So you essentially never have to replace the chip.  You enable the key/clear process by powering on the machine while holding the white button on the mpu.
