power supply pop

Last night I suddenly heard a very loud pop come from the other room. It sounded like a .22 going off so I immediately went to check. I found that something had happened to the power in my bb1. I checked and the power supply no longer has any output voltage, input voltage is fine. I removed the ps and took it apart expecting to see a cap blown but I found nothing that would visually indicate anything was wrong. Nothing was blown or burnt that I could find. Obviously the power supply will need to be replaced but my concern is what made it blow in the first place. Are there other components I should check first? Anything that could have caused the ps to blow other than old age? I just want to be on the safe side and not immediately fry my new ps when it gets here.

Sometimes power supplies just pop.  It is strange that you do not see any damage in the power supply.  Did you check both power supplies? Did you smell any burnt semiconductor?

I have not checked the other ps. It's the one behind the reels right? If so it might be ok as the cooling fan for it is running.
 I do not smell anything unusual.
 I also thought it was strange to see no signs of damage to the ps board, that's what's got me worried..
