s2000 reels spin backwards and buttons don’t light up
« on: January 31, 2024, 03:45:55 PM »
Hey Yall! I’m kinda at a stand still here. As you can tell by the title, that’s where i’m at. I have a 4 reel, Big Times Pay Machine. I’ve replaced my Chip Motherboard, the io card on the door, but not the io card in the cab. Reels 1-3 spin backwards, but reel 4 spins normal. i am at the 7 key chip config menu, but cannot go any further.

Any suggestions before i order more things?

the io card i have on the door is a 802.
The mother board is a 502

The motherboard is the backplane that your 502A MPU plugs into.

Post some photos of your 502A MPU board. Is that what you mean by chip motherboard?

See if you can get a closer up photo of U67, or look at it closely and see if it is damaged.

A bit blurry but looks OK I think.  Try a new cabinet I/O card.

What does that U67 chip do Lookes?
On an old 50x board I've kept, I have one that blew up...I'm not kidding!
I can see the guts of it...lol

Looking at the schematics, if U67 is shorted out, the 12v wouldn't be able to get to any of the reel optos, right?
Or screwy at best? lol :scratch-head_3:

U67 is the SENET device driver. They do blow up pretty good! Generally near pins 19 and 20.  SENET doesn't have anything to do with reel spin directly. The OP mentioned buttons not working and I have seen a couple old posts on NLG that said the reverse spin problem was caused by a bad cabinet I/O card. Also it looked like U67 was damaged but it was just the pin 1 dimple.

Do the buttons work when you go into the menu?

Are there any little green LEDs flashing on the door panel I/O card?
That's for the 5-button decks.
If you have another I/O card on the other side of the door panel, that would be for the 10-button decks.
You might have the wrong I/O cards for the deck you have?

i’ll double check but i’ve tried both a 801 and a 802 with no success. where would those leds be located, the top, bottom? i did check with a multimeter and got power though all the wires i tested.

Momo, I don't have any good news for you. I hope someone does. I've worked on hundreds of S2000 slots. Only once did the machine win. The reels were spinning backwards and the button panel did not work. Replaced main board, replaced mother board, replaced I/O cards, disconnected all lights printers and bv. Pulled the wiring harness to the suspect I/O card. checked everything with the volt meter, and finally threw in the towel after 3 days. Everything I read suggested this is an I/O card problem, it was not on my machine. I guess what I'm saying is don't kill yourself on this one. Every once and a while the machines wins.

i appreciate it, thank you for the words. i’m going to try a cabinet io card. that’s the last thing until i prob throw the towel. i just know that the slot used to work, then one day it stopped, according to the previous owner.

Hotslot, did you try replacing the reels or try to boot it without reels?  I've not seen this before but since he replaced the MPU, it's not a data line problem making them spin backwards. Seems like the program is trying to spin them backwards. I would think it would have a reel fault otherwise.

I love a good mystery but it's not the best thing for the OP. Hopefully the cab I/O card fixes it.

"Reels spinning backwards"

From right to left, or counter-clockwise?

right to left, from bottom to top. 4th reel spins fine no issues tho.

I have worked on many machines with this problem 99% of the time it U67 on the mpu if the mpu is a 50x. The one time it wasn’t the customers son used a “slot jammer” “slot emp” device on the machine. The only way i got that machine to work against was to replace every senet device in the machine and the mpu. Senet devices are all door and io cards, any 7segment displays like the credit display or pay line display, 4th reel light board on a 3+1 bonus. Some progressive displays and top box bonus devices.

When tested outside the machine every senet device i removed had shorts on the address and data lines
