Poker payback percentages?
« on: October 06, 2020, 12:31:22 PM »
So I was taking a look at the poker settings. Now according to vpFree2 some of these machines are configured to payback over 100%. How is this possible?

My system doesn't even have options to pay back over 100%. Is this a specific release?

Also when using a poker payback percentage calculator I am getting different results from the percentage reported by the machine.

Since the odds are always the same regarding poker hands, the only way to modify the holdback is to modify the awards given by specific hands.  If you go through and change your payback percentages, you will note these differences in the paytable.  If you have progressives, it is possible to have over 100% holdback if the player contribution is high enough.

If you checkout the link it includes poker that is not progressive. My system on Game King 8.3R doesn't even allow the payout settings listed on that site. I cannot configure Deuces Wild for 1-2-2-3-5-9-15-25-200-800 yet that is supposedly also on a IGT Multi-Game.

Hmm yes I guess mine can be set to that for Deuces Wild. The strange thing is the percent win in the settings says like 99.8% not 100.7% so this threw me off. Do they calculate in human error?

I believe 99.8 is the default.

Here are pics.

I have it set to P2063A 99.96% (the highest it will let me)

It is 1-2-3-4-4-11-15-25-200-800 and using a calculator this is actually 99.96% odds.

I don't see a higher paying option. So just different releases come with different odds?

On a fun side note I finally got a chance to play one of the 100.76% machines at Sam's Town in Vegas the other day :) they have a big warning on them "this machine doesn't count towards promotions or bonuses"

Yeah, different releases have different paybacks.  I haven't seen anything over 100% on the AVP loaders I have either.  Quite a few of my 044 poker games can be set over 100%.  With the 3902 software the base chip determined the paytables and there are several different ones for the different GK packages.  The biggest difference between them is the paytables, but some also enable different games.  Bottom line is your stuck with whatever the software allows.

When I lived in Vegas (1995-2000) most of the locals (think station casinos) casinos had video poker machines over 100%.  Most people don't play statistically correct anyhow, so they get back more because of that.  They used to also count for points on your player's card, sometimes 3x/5x points if you went on certain slow days.  My favorite was 10/7 Double bonus poker.
