19" GameKing (1st version GK) WBA Validater problem.
« on: November 06, 2014, 08:34:02 PM »
I have a 19" GameKing (1st version GK circa 1998). I have a problem with the WBA 13 validater.
On the monitor I get an Door OpenMB error. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that this has to do with the cash can.  I noticed that there is No cherry switch in the wall behind the cash can which I think is the problem.  There are two wires that are sitting on top of the WBA Transport and each has the crimp type wire extender on the end. The former owner or casino must have relocated them there. One wire is Black with a Orange strip and the other is solid Orange.

I'm assuming that these must have connected to the missing cherry switch that should be located behind the cash can.

Can anybody verify this? If I'm barking up the wrong tree with this please let me know

E~

The cherry switch in the back of the enclosure is not used outside the casino, it is for telltale equipment that was removed when it was pulled from the floor. Your problem will be with the cash can door switch. If it's still there, unplug the wires from it and short them together

Hello

Your error shows main door open (m) and bill door open (b). If the cash can was not in all the way or another issue you would get a bill validator stacker error on screen. Please be sure your bill door is closed and check if the door is hitting the switch.

Those 2 wires are shorted together.
As for the main door, it has both a cherry switch and optics.  The cherry switch seems to pork as you press it in and the light goes off. What should I look for at this point.

The closure MB shows up when the Main door and the Bill door have been closed.  This is normal behavior when they are closed. On my machine when the main door and the bill door are open, it says Door Open MB, when I close the Bill dorr, it will say closure B and door open M, when I close the main door, the Closure MB shows up and the door open goes away.   If you are getting both at the same time i.e. Door open MB AND Closure MB, try replacing the cabinet I/O card (the one with the shorter connector).

Hi Rick. It's interesting.  When the Main Door is closed.  Closure MB and Door Open B are on the screen and it says restart in the lower right hand corner of the screen.  The door open b doesn't make sense as the Blue wire with white strip & the Green wire with Blue strip are shorted together.  I have no Idea what restart means.  Weird thing is that I can use coins to play the game when the door is closed.   The I/Os are in a tray. One I/O is bigger than the other. this machine originally came with a 3208 board and is not IGame plus.  I have a 3902 that I put in the machine to play simm games. Do you still thinks i should replace an i/O and if so, which one?  Could it be the 3902 processor board?

When the Main Door is Open it is as I said before. The screen display both ClosureMB & Door OpenMB

Restart is the message you get anytime you boot a machine.  It should go away whenever you play the first spin, same with closure MB.  But you should never have Door Open M and Closure M at the same time, they are mutually exclusive, unless there's something weird going on. I would change the I/O board. The one pictured here.  Image shamelessly lifted from Roz' site.  :arrowthruhead:

Check for continuity on between pins 5 & 6 on J9 on the motherboard. If you have continuity there then either the motherboard is bad or your 3902 board is (or it has a bent pin on J2).   The bill validator door open signal does not go through the IO card tray, it goes from the switch on the bill validator, through an intermediate connector (J360) and to the motherboard J9.  See attached wiring diagrams.

Rick, the older Game Kings do not have the small removable IO cards, they have an IO card tray that contains two IO circuit cards and sits below the processor in the 19" GK or above the processor in a 13" GK.

Edited to add:  The wires that should be jumpered to bypass the switch should be Blue with a Gray tracer, and a solid green wire.

This has nothing to do with you problem. This is a IMPORTANT FYI NOTICE.  what ever you do do NOT attach those two wires ( the black/orange strip, and orange wire laying ontop of the transport)  to  anything until you know exactly where they go.

The REASON:  in all S-2000 and IGT machines using a two voltage DC power supply, the two wires you have sitting on top of the transport represent +25vdc. The wiring scheme is the same for all S-2000/GK/I-game etc.  Black wire with orange strip is the ground wire, the orange is the hot wire for + 25vdc.  black wire with a red strip is the ground wire, the red wire is the hot wire for +13 vdc.

Hope this helps

Jim

That's right the original 3802's did not have the little I/O cards, I should have known that after the Australian guy with his gameking.  :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
