S+ Machine Coins
« on: April 06, 2015, 03:30:33 PM »
Hi, so I just picked up an S+ machine which hasn't been used in about 6 months. The bill validator is inop. When the coins are dropped into the slot they come out the bottom, into the tray without releasing the handle. Any ideas as to what can be wrong?

I'm new to all this, but no there is no number at all there. Where would the CPU battery be?

Any numbers in any of the three windows? These will be winner paid .. credit .. coins played.

Could be on the left wall or back wall (w/internal bill validator). The metal plate will have a black round handle on it .. lift/pull up. Power off always.

No numbers at all. The machine powers up but there's no action from anything. And I didn't see anyting with a black round handle on it. The back wall has a metal cover with a sticker for the different DIP sw positions.

When machine is on, are the REELS tight or do they spin easy by hand? I'm going to put my money on the power cable to the mother board. The picture shows the cable turned backwards to show the burnt spot. Located on floor behind hopper.

The processor board is on the back wall behind the coin hopper.

Check the 3 fuses below the bill acceptor.

Check the reels as mentioned above to determine if they are energized.

If not then ...

The metal coin tray in front of the black coin hopper has to be removed by lifting up on it about a half an inch and then towards you.

The black coin hopper on the inside will then pull out. Vertical handle in front.

... check the harness as mentioned/pictured above. it is the only white one in front of the metal tray w/ black round handle on it and at the floor level and towards the right edge of the cpu metal tray.

If the reels are energized then it usually relates to something going bad on the board but not always.

We have to get the displays working first. You will have to lift up on the tray to remove it. Then pull the hopper out. Then you will see a silver tray with the black knob. Lift straight up and it may be a little tight and it will pop up, then pull it out of the machine. You will see the battery near the little blue volume control wheel. New have 3.6vdc. If your is less than 2.4vdc then it will need replacing. Of course everything you remove be sure power is OFF. Check the reels first to see if there is any tension on them.

ok got everything apart, the reels spin freely. I found the handle on the rear plate and the transformer has corrosion all around it, seems moisture got to it. Also one of the capacitors are no good. What are my options?

Most likely Battery Acid. Post a picture of it kind of close up. On the board on the bottom where that plugs in, is there corrosion there too?

can you snap a picture of it .. also did you check the white connector as in the picture above? The harness with the white connector that is pictured is the power to the boards coming from the power supply on the bottom right of the machine .. if that harness connection is bad then nothing will happen so that is important for us to know

Major battery leakage. I had one like that had to replace the board. Lot's of damage down the MPU. Can't see the top but looks like a 10 mhz board. CV slots and other vendors sell them on here.

Now that battery is exploded. You will need to unsolder it and clean all corrosion with vinegar and rinse with water and dry. Look at the other board on the bottom also as I bet it has acid on it too. Worst case a replacement board, best case cleaning and replacement battery

I would suggest you get a new board and transformer also. While you are doing that to get the ram and set chip that is needed for programming purposes. The picture you posted above shows a missing WBA bill validator and bezel so you might pick up a bill acceptor also.

Probably replace it. You will need the chips off of it for new board. They run from $35. and up. S+ parts are getting scarce. http://rudysdeals.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=89&product_id=3546
