Isn't the test button for an S+ on the power switch enclosure, either front or back? Never heard of one on the MPU rack/frame. Test switch position sounds like S2000 but error codes are definately S+. What am I missing here?

S+ machines can have the self-test button located in 1 of 3 positions:

-On lower front of MPU board, when installed
-On front of power switch assembly
-On BACk of power switch assembly (this ones tricky, as it can't be seen)

Depending on the age of the machines the switch locations vary...

Hello to everyone. Been a couple days since my last post, nothing new. Went back over MPU board, not finding any issues. Reinstalled board and powered up. Code 61 came up as usual, still wont bring up 61-1. I am now looking to get a "clear" chip. Once I receive it I will attempt to "break" the 61 loop. I will post result as soon as I can. Thanks again and wish me luck!

I'm not sure since your test button is on the tray. But some have found that the wires for the test switch have been unplugged. If you can trace where the wires from it go, might be worth it. The 61 LOOP is usually when you have 61 then you get 61-1 close the door turn key and it goes back to 61. I have had a few boards that would not change to 61-1 and a clear took care of it. Can you post a picture of your board cage and test button?

Elvis is correct. The true 61 loop is when you can get the 61 to go to 61-1, but then after closing door and turning key, the 61 reappears. This is not what you are experiencing. It is possible the test button is not working or is unplugged, however, since you're family has had this machine for sometime, that would seem odd.

Also, when checking your test button, follow its harness and make sure it is plugged in nice and snug.

The plug could have corroded or a little grey creature could have been munching on wires. Or that battery leaked all over everything. Pictures help us so much. Would like to see the board and the mother board along with front of machine with code. His original 64 is for a "link down check link, check communicator" whatever that means.

I posted the picture here for you and others that may help.
Nothing looks unusual with the board but do you have a picture of your test button?
I believe you said it was on the MPU  :Scratch-Head:
White button on rack that holds MPU Board.

When you make a reply, at the bottom of the page is attachments and other options. Click on that and click browse to go to your picture files. Click on the file then open and click on the picture then open. That should load your picture. Here's an example of a wiring shot. Then click post.

I also have one of the early S+ machines with the test button on the mpu on the left front. It's the early machines in the old S cabinets. Kind of hard to find under all the connectors.

The pic that NeonKiss posted of your board, the REEL PROM is not labeled, and has its window exposed. This window needs to be covered up, as the EPROM is erased by UV light entering this window. Cover it up with a piece of tape to protect it! Could even be what's wrong with your game now, but it would be a long shot (more likely to happen if board were left out of machine for a long time).

Will do. This would be the first time the board has been out of rack in over 15 years. Cabinet is VERY clean, no dirt or dust. Board is spotless, got to the battery before it could leak. I should have the "Clear and Set" chips in the next couple days. For right now I will go over wiring and harnesses, plugs, etc. Machine appears to have been well maintained in its former life. Wondering if my door optics are good, bottom lamp on candle flashes whether door is open or not. When reset is pushed both lamps go out, but they both flash immediately after. Optics are cheap to purchase, might just get a set and try swapping them out. Can always use spares, right. Is the candle the only output for the door, or can I toggle through a list of outputs?
