S+ -- can't get to 7 options
« on: May 03, 2015, 07:13:52 AM »
I have an S+ Wild Cherry 3 coin Single line I bought as non working. I put a battery in it and when I pressed the white button it went from 61 to a maiden spin. Found that quite odd. And the machine plays. After it reaches 100 credits it pays all winnings from the hopper. So I try with the white button to go to option 7 and the menu only goes to 5 and then machine goes to ready to play at the next press of the button. There is a US Navy serial  number sticker on the side if that is a clue? Also the jumper next to the SP chip socket is jumpered different then others . It is jumped to E16 which is to the right hand side. Tryed it on the left and the machine does not work. Is there something I am missing or a setting needs changed or is this a military issue?

SP036

4                                      3410
5    nothing on displays here
0  maiden spin ready to play at this point

SOLVED - changed the SP chip to a newer chip which has the menu and now have the options for 7 menu.

Do u have any different game chips
That is a type 0 game and  you need to find a game chip that is type 0
The one you have in that game could be the problem

I  tried both chips from a different game and the board works correctly. So it is one of the chips that is the problem?

I will need some education and guidance here as this S+ is new to me. I have been doing some searching here and on NLG.net but I'm still unsure of myself.

What do I need to look for when searching for a Type O game chip? I do have some chips but I have to take a look  to see what is in the box.

That SP036 chip is really old, it doesn't show on this list below. Is it possible it is such early software that the functions and menu choices you are expecting were not included back then?

What SP number should I be looking for in a newer version? I do not see a "Wild Cherry" listed in SP list. Thanks!

The SP chip is used to set the options on the machine. The SS chip contains the game and recognizes the reel tape positi0ons and payout amounts.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

Can he install a newer SP chip? The SP036 may not have the options and settings he'd like to have.

What MHz board do you have? Do you have a volume wheel on the top of the MPU tray or not? If you do, you have a 10mhz board, and I would suggest SP1271. If not, I believe SP731 is a 16mhz chip. Both are fairly friendly SP chips.

With the older game chips, the hopper settings are set from the dipswitches.
Usually the dipswitches are outlined on a sticker on the back of the MPU tray.

Looks like his board does have the volume control at top. But maybe as Jay suggested he can set the dipswitches to get the credit limit and hopper payout limit where he wants it.

Those jumpers near the SP and SS chips are probably set for whatever memory size the chip is. I can see that the SS chip (REEL PROM) is a 2764A eprom, the SP chip (GAME PROM) is probably a different sized chip and that's why their jumpers are different.

You don't want to mess with the jumpers. Just the dip switches.

Since it hasn't been mentioned, make sure there are zero credits on the machine before you try to make any changes regarding credit limits and the like.  If there are credits on the machine, the changes may not take effect, or may not take effect until the credit meter hits zero (depending on the SP chip).

Re: S+ -- can't get to 7 options on SP036 Game chip
« Reply #15 on: May 04, 2015, 07:16:59 PM »
OK I found a SP709 Game chip and it now has the menu for setting the 7 options.
I used a SET 015 to enable DBV and set denomination. DBV is not working though. I will do a search first to see what too look for on that issue.
I did not try the DIP switch settings on the SP036 Game chip.
This old SP036 does not have the same menu optins  as the SP709
I thought the SP & SS chips had to be an exact match set.
THANK YOU !!! to all that chimed in here. Much Appreciated
Tim

Each chip has a PSR (program summary report).
It describes what options are available for each chip.

When testing a new setup on a bill validator it is best to use the regular old $1 bill. That way you eliminate possible problems with how old the bill validator internal software might be. Today's bills are all the newer style (except for the $1) and many older validators won't work with them since they have old software for yesterday's bill designs. What model bill validator is it? If it is a DBV-200 usually you can turn the BV head upside down and see the eprom and its label markings. Can't always go by the sticker on the top of the BV head as someone may have updated it and not changed the sticker.

The "compatible" sp chip is not dictated really. Go more by the game type (0, 1, 2, 4, etc). We find the newer SP chips are more user friendly. There is not a database other than what is here on NLG, thanks to the wonderful members who put in the time to form it! It's available in our NLG File System.
