Author Topic: NXT1 vs. NXT2 observations (Read 8562 times)

Hey guys,

For those that have GE2, I noticed a couple of major differences running this game on a BB1 compared to some videos that I've seen on YouTube with it running in a BB2.

1. Great Eagle build up sound: Fast forward to 0:23 and notice the "yayayayaya" sound.

This sound is missing in my test on a BB1. Only silence. Is this correct for the BB1?

2. Big Win exploding coin animations are on the BB2. No animations at all on a BB1. Is this correct?

What game version do you have? I have DD83-000-1030D0. I will load it up on my bb2 this weekend and have a go at it. Hopefully I can get a big win without having to spend the entire day waiting for one, as it is just my luck.

Maybe it would be better to put yours in a BB1 to see if you get the same results as I did. The BB2 has all of the sound and coin animations.

Jason this is normal for running on a BB1. I noticed this on Gorilla Chief a while back when I got my BB1 about 2 years ago.

When running the newer G+ 5x4s they omit A LOT of things in the graphics and sounds. Transitions from base to bonus are different. There is no animation to the BIG WIN, SUPER BIG WIN and MEGA BIG WIN graphics. No coins flinging around in the meter bar. Sounds missing like you described. The payline win text is also better when on a NXT 2.

I also had trouble running Wild Frontier... when I got a BIG WIN with all the buffalo symbols, my machine would lock up because the animation on the buffalos would SLOW DOWN the MPU big time. All is well once you get a NXT 2 in your machine... What are you waiting for? They have come down in price! All of your games will run SMOOTHER! Once you load those games in the NXT 2 everything will be there. Sounds, graphics, animations. Has nothing to do with the version number. I found that out.

Yeah, so I'm running the same version as Rick. Not a huge deal.

The process is like anything else. To move casinos to the next platform, they need to strip some things out on the old platform, otherwise, why pay the $ to upgrade if it's the same experience right?

Yeah, spending the $ for a widescreen monitor, the NXT2 motherboard/MPU, and adding a top monitor just isn't in the deck of cards for a while. Plus, there are some good BB1 games that won't run in the NXT2 hardware right?

Unless your Bally who still releases Alpha 1 compatible games.

You don't need to go widescreen right away with your conversion. I waited almost a months before I went widescreen. Some (all G+ and 5x4s SSSG games (E1.11, H9, and H13) will run on Nxt 2, unless its a newer widescreen title. If you want to run older games, it's as simple as swapping MPUs. I do this occasionally. It's so worth it!!

The motherboard takes nxt1 and 2 MPUs? So all I need is an nxt 2 MPU and that's it? What has the price been dropping down to? Ballpark? If that's all there is to it, I'd consider it.

I've seen them as low as $650 on ebay. Still steep but when I bought mine, they were around $1000-1200. All you do is pull up on the MPU and it detaches from the backplane. Take NXT2 and pop it in where nxt 1 was. Wanna play some older games? Swap it back.

Since your machine is a Dean Martin Wild Party, make sure you have the version that runs on H9 (if you dont already have it) so you can run it on NXT2.

You have a blue backplane or green?

The person that has the 650.00 BB2 CPU is the person I purchased A OLED Panel from. Panel is very clean and all functions work as intended. Just thought I would give you a heads up for the inevitable UPGRADe

I mentioned this before, I have about 25 games. I also have no glass to store or protect. The other day i loaded up Pirates Of The Deep and found the Power Spins Icons show up on the top row of the panel buttons - Very awesome and nice looking. Of course the upgrade path can get expensive.

Does the backplane color really matter? I've never noticed any difference other than the blue one looks cooler with the different colored molex plugs.

Check out this Gorilla Chief...skip to 0:48 and forward. This appears to have the "yayayaya" sounds. Notice at 1:53 it's got the coins exploding as well? Looks like it's playing on a non-widescreen BB1.

Could it be that there are newer versions of the games/OSs that would play certain sounds. I say it because if there was an NXT2 MPU in there, Gorilla Chief is a 5x4 that would only play on that MPU if it had a widescreen right?

So since it has a top monitor, would it have an NXT2 in it and be a BB 1.5??? Maybe that's why it has the sounds and animations.

Jason, you don't need dual screens to use a NXT2 mpu on your cabinet. I've been using a NXT2 on my mother's Hot Hot Zeus II machine for over a year now, and it's a choptop just like yours and it has the 4:3 aspect ratio monitor. I basically just swapped out the NXT for the NXT2 only. She is a happy camper because the game plays faster and she gets all the sounds and animations.

Cheese caper wont work BB2.
Jackpot party wont either.
I think the others will as long as they use os 9xx

There MAY be a version of Super Jackpot Party that works on BB2 though. The one I have does not, but I think I have seen a SJP in the wild running on a bb2. I am almost sure, though not 100% since it has been a while.

There IS a Super Jackpot Party (not jackpot party WIA or Block party) that runs on BB2/NXT2. I've seen it in Vegas a couple weeks ago.

*Notice in the BB2 version they added curtains to the side after getting a Party Saver to hide the original animation of the guy pushing the party savers off screen so it doesn't look cut off.. Kinda neat.

all run on H9

So I think most of my games are H9, but there are a couple like Great Eagle 2 that are 13.x. What happens with that game running on NXT2 and a 4:3 monitor?
