Your DBV-200 bill validator is a popular model from that time period and is still used in many machines today. But it has been replaced with newer systems and JCM stopped supporting it or releasing software updates years ago. The DBV contains software that lets it recognize and accept US paper money. As you know the US switched all their bills to a newer design, except for the $1 bill. So your DBV may not work with some of these new bills in circulation now. The JCM software for your DBV did get several newer releases after yours, so you could load the newest software in order to get the most out of your BDV-200. The last s/w release for your DBV-200 was called ver 2.61-04-03. The process to update the DBV software depends on whether it has an eprom or flash rom inside. If you remove the DBV-200 head unit from the machine you can turn it over and look on the bottom thru an opening to see what type of rom it has. If there is a flat ic soldered to the circuit board that is a flash rom and you'd need special setup to reprogram it with new software. If the rom is a standard DIP eprom in a socket the software update is much easier and many hobbyists with an eprom burner can help you with that, provided you locate the newer software you want to load. And there are slot dealers/businesses that can update the software for you and they usually have the software updates on file. Some will want you to send in the DBV head, others will ship the replacement eprom to you to install yourself. You can sometimes find the update eprom on ebay, just have to make sure you get the right one for your machine.

In the meantime you can always use a $1 bill for testing, since it hasn't changed like the other bills have. I think the $20 bill was changed long enough ago that it might work also, you'd just have to try different bills after getting the machine working. But the $1 should always work so it is best to use when testing.

So what are my options on replacing that older DBV with something newer. I obviously want to get the thing to work first and currently I am not too worried about it taking larger bills, but I am sure down the road I would like the option of putting a 5 10 or 20 in. Thanks

You can upgrade to a wba 12/13 setup.  The last update to that validator for the S+ takes new $5's but not the new $100.  All other currency types are accepted as well.  Look to spend between $60 to $100 in parts depending on your geographical area.

Here is one place of several that sells new & used slot parts. This is a listing of their WBA parts. The WBA bill validator came along after the DBV models were discontinued. They are made by the same JCM company. You would need to change out all the DBV components, like the transport, housing, cash can etc. This is what Rick was referring to. Doing this would let your machine use nearly all of the current US bills in circulation.

If you keep the DBV bill validator and get its software updated then at best it will probably only accept 1 or 2 current bill denominations, plus the $1, but I'm not sure which ones. But even if it was only one of them, like the $20, that might be all you need. This would be an easier and cheaper solution, provided that you are happy with the bills the machine accepts.

http://rudysdeals.com/index.php?route=product/search&search=wba

Remember that when shopping for a bill validator it has to be one that is compatible with your machine. For an IGT S+ model this means a validator that uses ID protocol -023.

So I went home with the PSR and went through the settings. Everything is getting back to normal but the problem is the optics on the door must be going bad. I disconnected the receiver eye and held it directly up to the transmitter eye. The machine functioned perfectly. I'm going to order a new set today. The only setting I still have to play with is why the winnings are going to credit. I am pretty sure I know what setting I changed but was heading outing town and did not get a chance to play around with it.

So now I just need to get the dollar exchanger working. Should I be looking at getting a chip to try and reset it?

Thanks guys

Maybe you just need to check the alignment on the optics. This can be done with masking tape and a pencil marks on the door and machine. Mark where it is on the machine and on the door with the latch down. Close the door and check to see if the marks line up. If not adjust so they are in line and try it then. If that's the problem it will save you some money for optics.

Reading on you should be able to check your settings to see if the b/v is enabled. I don't remember the location but somebody will chime in and tell you where to look. I believe if you need a set chip to enable it is a Set 15.

...The other question is what is the Key do that is on top of the MPU board. It has two wires going into a harness, but I cannot figure out why it is there and if it affects the machine at all.  :Scratch-Head:

Thanks again

If it's connected together it should be fine. ( By the way, all wires inside an S+ can "affect" a machine! haha )
Can you post a picture of it for me?  :nerd:

I will be back in town tonight. I will snap a bunch of pictures of the machine so I can post it. Has anyone else come across these red white and blue machines from AC. I would imagine there are more out there? It seems to be in pretty good condition for 19 years old.

oh okay....if the two wires go into a key switch, then it's an MPU trigger for security.
No biggie for home usage...it can be disconnected.
The signal from those wires go to the MPU board and out to the backroom security at a casino via an internet interface.

Makes sense. I will still put up some pictures just for future reference or for anyone who is wondering the same thing as I was.

I ordered a few little things today, buttons, optics, etc. Where is the best place to buy a set chip for the DBV. Who has the best price/most reliable gear? Thanks.

Do you actually have a dbv validator or is it a wba validator? There is actually a difference.

I am pretty sure it is a DBV. I cannot access the proper page to turn the validator on or off. I am assuming I will need a set chip to access this? It was suggested that the Set Chip 15 would be the correct one. Does this sound right?

Yes that is a DBV200, the set chip is required to enable the validator.  But you should be able to check if the validator is enabled in the system.  It is page 0 option 9 if 9 is set to 0 the validator is not enabled, if it set to 1 then it is.  You would need a set 15 to change the option from 9 0 to 9 1.  See the link below on how to use the set chip to enable validator.

Thanks. I will play around with it tonight. I still have a hard time getting to the Page 0 Option 9 menu. I seems to show 9999 9999 when I get to that page, or it may not be there at all, and I am actually getting to page 9..... I think I just need a little more practice navigating the pages and options. I will pick up a set chip just in case. I am sure it can't hurt to have on hand.

read the S+ flip cards, they explain every setting and what is displayed in every window ,that way you will know what test or menu you are in. because you have a SP932  you can use the buttons on the machine to navigate through the menus and then through each menu. three buttons involved, bet 1, met max and change buttons.  its all explained in the  PSR.  then you could test the optics and actually see where they engage and dis engage.

So i went through the machine tonight. Whenever I get to the 8 screen, I get all 8888 8888. I took apart the DBV and checked the dip switches, they all seem to be correct. The DBV still cycles fine, and for some reason when I close the door on the machine it cycles as well. I tried re-seating, shaking and moving all connections to see if the door closing is rubbing a wire and causing it to cycle. It is hard to duplicate, so I can't say for sure why it seems to be cycling when the latch is thrown down, unless it should do this when the door sensor makes contact.  If I try and put a dollar in, it does nothing.

I also ran the output test and could not get anything to happen when testing 26.

i am attaching some pictures of the LEDs on the DBV. Seems two of the three are on. They stay on solid, not flashing or anything. I took the panel off the black box which seems to power and control the DBV. The board seems a little brown or dark, like it was burnt a little. Might be just old age, but the board defiantly has some dark areas around it.

I am also attaching pictures of the key on the MPU and a black box above it. I am not sure what the box is for, but I think it might have something to do with the Marquee. Can I do anything with the marquee, since the machine is not running in a group? It would be cool to have it do something unique.

Just wanted to say again, THANKS for everyone's help. This has become a enjoyable project. I might have to look at some more fixer uppers if I can get this one all figure out, and learn some things on the way.

Happy Thanksgiving all!!

Ed
