GameKing will boot but no video

Hello all,


Long time no post, hope everyone is doing well.  My machines don't stay on all the time so time before last when I booted my gameking (enhanced board with no green Varta battery on it), there was no video for a while but I could hit the max play button and I would tell the game was playing due to the sounds.  After having the power applied for a while the video came on.  Stayed on for a few days with no issues, turned the machine off.  A couple of months later turned it back on, same deal, no video but figured I'd let it set for a while and the video would appear, NOPE, sat for two days, no video.  Is it possible this could be the flat screen has gone completely out, I tried hitting the menu button and it does not respond.  I don't have anything to swap this out with to do checking, guess if I knew the pinout on the cabinet I could use a volt/OHM meter to check to see if the monitor is even getting power.  I would think if it were a bad power supply the game would not boot but if I knew all the answers I would probably have it fixed by now.  Any ideas from the pro's out there?

Is this a CRT or an LCD?

Does the lcd show "no-video" or similar message on the screen, or is the screen totally black at all times.  Is there a small led light on the lcd somewhere that usually displays when it is powered on?

Sounds like your monitor is bad.  Could be:

Inverter board
CCFL Tube
A-D Board
Monitor power supply.

What model LCD do you have?  I have Kortek's and have had two Inverter boards fail on mine despite not getting a lot of use.

I don't recall a small LED being on anywhere on the monitor but I could be wrong.  It is completely black at all times and when I push the menu button on the front nothing happens on the monitor.  The system boots, buttons light up, BV does its thing and once booted I can hear the game playing in the back ground.  Guess I can try and take it to one of the local vendor and have them test it in a machine.  The label on the bracket says Kortek.  I'll add a picture of the label.  If its inverters would it be just simpler/as cheap to pick up a diff monitor?

The reason I ask if there's a led is because, no led is usually bad power supply inside the monitor.  Usually a cap issue.  If there's a led, but no video, you could use a very bright flashlight and see if you can make out the image (without the backlight, the image is barely visible, but it's there), this usually means inverter or ccfl.  It wouldn't be in your cabinet since these games supply 120v a/c to the monitor and it is unlikely that is bad.  If you get "no video" message it is usually the A/D board.  I see it appears to be a 19" monitor?  Used ones go for around $200.  The inverter and other parts vary.  You would need to take yours apart to see what is the inverter and to look at the power supply for bulging caps or any signs of damage.

Just throwing this out there because I ran into a similar situation with my older 13 inch CRT game king.  Turned out to be one of the boards not pushed in all the way to the back plane.  Mine has two boards both located in trays above the monitor.  The upper tray seems to control the video.  I had a lid to the tray that was not secure and the corner lifted up which did not allow the board tray to be pushed all the way in.  I secured that lid and then the tray slid in correctly and the monitor came on as normal.
