BALLY 3 Coin Multiplier Model 1091: Handle Won't Work
« on: July 25, 2019, 07:09:08 AM »
1. I insert a quarter. coin drops through; mechanics & switches seem to operate normally. A click is heard between the 3 reels and the handle gearing; but, the handle does not release to pull down. What do I do next?
2. I'm able to remove the payout apparatus, but unable to remove the 3 reels after lifting the two hold down handles on either side. Is there another lock holding the reels in place?

I found the answer to my stuck handle on the .net forum. I manually released the handle; but actuating it does not spin the 3 reels. Two reels are fixed in their cog. The far left wheel is free spinning, no restraint. Suggestions how to proceed. I have tried to pull the reels apparatus out of the machine, but the track is STUCK (thusfar).
2. AND inserting a coin still does not release the handle. I hear a click, but the restraining lever doesn't move away.

Sounds like the machine has been sitting for awhile.
If the first reel is just free wheeling, the index stop arm may be stuck back.
To make it a bit easier to remove the reels, pull all the stop arms back out of the slots.
Secure them back with a soft wire or paper clip. Note be sure to remove restraints before re-installing.
Put a little bit of oil where the shaft sets into the chassis. The shaft goes back then up and out.
It might need a little persuasion, a tap towards the back of the chassis.
When replacing note the squared off side of the shaft.
Also use caution when placing reels on the work surface, as wheels like to roll.

Does the reel mech not come out, or just the reels?

The reel mech. is stuck, un-removed as yet. I squirted WD40 on tracks as best I could reach, but reel mech. not released yet.

It could be stuck in the guide. Years of oil, grease and dust.
Things to try, prop the front of the machine up 2 inches +or-.
Apply some penetrating/cleaning or a small amount of degreaser in the tracks.
Let set over night.
Or put a screwdriver between the chassis and the guide. Pry back and forth. Also up and down.
Best to to do both, degrease then pry.

Put a small flat blade screwdriver between the RM pan and the reel unit. Push down on driver as you pull out on flaps. Works most every time.

Tilt & degrease worked like a charm; Reel Mechanism came out.   Oiled & cleaned. Reinstalled. NOW the latest problem is that pulling the handle does not actuate the reels to spinning.
Life goes on

See attached information.
Check noted parts first and adjust if needed.

A clear well lit close up photo of the reel mechanism side in question would help in the evaluation.

Thanks for the photos, a little dark for me to see.

Its possible the handle is traveling to far and becomes stuck down.
Are you able to manually spin the reels by pushing the J bar into the air cylinder?

Lengthening the drive shaft will trip the reels sooner.
Adjust nuts G and E out towards the end of the shaft.
Try 2 or 3 turns at a time.

With the reel mechanism out of the machine, fully actuating the handle and gears does not pull the reel wiper arms back. When I manually pull back the reel wiper arms, each reel spins effortlessly. It appears that the shaft near the bottom rear that goes all the way across, is not rotating when the handle (gears) is actuated. On this shaft are attached the 3 reel wiping arms. I'm learning!

Check the roll pin in the trip lever assembly.
If the lever moves and the shaft does not, its a good indication that the pin is sheared off.

The roll / shear pin in the trip lever assembly is working properly, not sheared. Moving the handle rotates a lever on the shaft, but not the adjacent lever with the shear pin. This adjacent lever is part of the shaft across bottom rear of the reels mechanism. There does not seem to be any attach/friction between the two adjacent levers. Nothing appears stuck on the shaft. I'll send a photo to your email

Both side of the trip lever assembly should work together when the small boomerang shaped trip lever engages.
Thus pushing the outer half which in turn rotates the shaft.
Sometimes the the small lever gets stuck down and will keep missing its attend mate.
Also look for the tension spring on the inside, it may be missing / disconnected.
Or there is excessive oil on the parts and it slips off.
