I guess there is no right or wrong answer. Thanks to a NLG member I just bought my 12th slot game. An IGT Fortune 1. Yes, I am guilty of having a dual addiction. Bally EM's AND IGT Fortune 1 games. I hope that there is a 12 step program for me out there somewhere.

It has been 15 years since I bought my first Bally 809. It, and this great forum, and the wonderful men and women on it have opened up a new world. Of all the games that I have my guests ALWAYS enjoy playing the 873 fruit games the most. The little hits keep them going and give them joy. My geriatric crew really let the yells out when they his a 100 coin pay. I love it.

MOST, but not all, Bally EM's are single pay line games. Some have multipliers to get the player to invest more. There are also a good number of 3 line games with various themes and schemes. Many of the rare games, that I call the exotics, have secondary games such as the Las Vegas, Monte Carlo and Circus. Although the secondary game may add another level of excitement to the one line game I may never know. These gems are as rare as hens teeth and in almost 20 years I have never even seen 1 for sale that I had a chance to acquire.

The question is, collect-ability and investment value aside, is the most Bally EM fun ever to be had found in a 5 line 873? If so, I think that I will give up my quests for the "exotics" and just get 873 fruit games in as many denominations as I can.

Should the thrill be gone?

Greetings T. I agree with your opinion on multi-line machines. I also have an 809 and it pays out infrequently and often only with the cherries. That machine made a lot of money for the casinos, rarely paying our anything above 25 coins. The multi-line machines pay out less but more frequently. I would rather have frequent 5 or 10 coin payouts than a very infrequent 50-100 coin payout.

I guess it depends on the individual machine as my 809's will pay out way more often than my 873. My favorite machine is either my Medalist because of the combo's on five reels. Also the Lucky 7"s because it pays in either direction on six coins.

When they still had Ballys in the casinos, the 873 was my favorite game. I wrote a computer simulation of it in the 1980s that sold over 100,000 copies.

Thanks guys for the responses. It seems that my inclination is leaning toward being right. Although I have very little time actually playing the games with a secondary feature I think the frequent small wins on the 873 significantly increases the joy Factor. Although the other games with multipliers and three lines are interesting I just can't find one that equals the 873 even after looking at the Bally book. This of course, is just my humble opinion.

Well...

You know that I tried to post pictures but they were too large. Flintstone that I am, I called myself reducing the pictures twice. To no avail. All is not lost. One of my 873 games is the first picture on my profile. The other is also a $0.05 873 but it has a Golden Nugget theme throughout. I will learn how to edit pictures one day I promise guys.

I will have a basement full of old folks enjoying my game room this weekend. Friends visiting from the South Carolina and the in laws. The looks on their faces make all the lifting and minor electrocutions worth while.

New Life Games give new life to old folks.

Had? They are still at it! Out of town guests are leavingTuesday. They only stop playing to eat and sleep. I am blessed to be able to give people that I love so much fun. I thank God for the opportunity and NLG members for the fantastic help.

I hope to pry them away from the basement to visit some antique stores tomorrow. They wanted to do some American Pickers stuff before they go.

They absolutely did. One guy is dealing with lung cancer for the fourth time. The medicine and other complications is making him go blind. God has blessed me so that I can bring joy to him and his family during these troubled times. That's what this hobby is about for me.

For me a Bally 1099 $1 criss cross would be the rare unicorn. Bally 873 or 1090 dollar machines are my favorites.

Dollar games are hard to find indeed. Where would you get the coins to fill the hopper? Are the dollar coins the same size as they were before? I have not even seen a traditional dollar piece in about 10 years. I hope that you find your unicorn. Everyone should.

Actual dollar coins (silver dollars) are actually worth much more than face value. Even the 'Ike" dollar coin is worth more than one dollar as a collectors item. Best to use dollar size tokens or obsolete casino coins. They are easy to find on e-bay.

Richard this NLG crew are period correct as much as possible. We are the upper crust of the coin op world. Real silver dollars or bust! Perhaps if you fill up a big hopper with them it may AND bust.

Reminds me of the story of the guy who tells his buddies he just had the worst sex he ever had. They said how was it, he said â€˜Wonderful!!â€™ Theyâ€™re all wonderful. I personally like the single line machines because you can modify the reel discs and change the % and pay frequency fairly easy. My old boss at the Mapes liked to add a 7 to tighten up the machines. Of course heâ€™d take off a cherry to do that....
