This is my first time behind the wheel on this type of a machine which i believe is a I-Game. It's Rainbow Riches

At the start I get the Call Attendant with Tilts - Coin In Jam, Meter Disconnected, & Options Verification's Required.

Turn attendant key and return to game and tilts are still there .

The machine never had coin handling . The error just popped up one day.

I reseated all three I/O cards, the MPU, all the harness connections to the backplane and power supplies.

At Front Panel Board Inputs test - Coin In  1A flashes 1&0 very quickly and constantly

Same thing at Processor Board I/O Test- Quarts Inputs-

the following flashes 1&0 very quickly and constantly

Coin Drop Door

Bill Validator Door

Power Supply Pulse

Should the Red LED on the bottom left side of the lower cabinet power supply be lit?

Should the Red LED on the Backplane Board be lit?

Being the Power Supply Pulse test shows 1&0 flashing quickly has the power supply failed?

Where is a good place to start?

Now After I  left the power on for 2 hours the Main Door under Processor Board I/O Test is alternating 1&0 very quickly and constant.

Any ideas?

Thanks

the nature of a pulse suggests switching between 0 and 1 may be normal for the power supply. most of or all of the problems i am seeing are senet related so i would start with io boards and mpu. never unplug or plug in any senet devices while the machine is on i have see it fry the buffer ic on the mpu.

OK

I'll have to send them out for testing as I have no spares or other machines.

Thank You

If the problem is on the MPU board it is most likely U74.  That's the buffer IC vtyler is referring to I'm sure.  Removing or inserting a MPU board with the power on is the #1 way I've seen of frying it.

Please help educate me here on this machine.

Is there two power supplies on this machine?

One on the lower left bottom of cabinet and then another on the back lower wall of the cabinet?

Is the I/O on the door the same part number as the I/O that is mounted on the side of the cabinet wall with the same size connection?

On the circuit board itself there will be a white tag with the board model number, look at that. Probably the same but not for sure. The power supply has the wall plug going to it, the other is likely the power distribution module

2 of the 3 I/O's have the same numbers. I swapped them and it did not change the errors.

Thanks for the info on power supply and distribution boards. Now hopefully I will be better at describing what parts I'm talking.

There is a ribbon cable attached to the side of the power supply which there is a Red LED at this connection point, should the LED be lit?

Thanks!

The module on the lower left with the ribbon cable is the power distribution module.  The board with the LED is the communications board, and no, the LED is not normally lit on it.  The main power supply is on the back wall and provides +13 VDC and +25VDC outputs.  If you were missing either of those your machine would not boot up at all.

Update

Changed the known working power supply, all 3 known working I/O cards, Keyed with 22 and put base chip back in , made all the settings.

Got rid of Coin In Jam, but still have "Meter Disconnected Error" .

MPU or the Motherboard ? Or what else should I check?

Thanks!

if the Meter Disconnected Error is your only problem at this point i wouldn't think that it would be mpu or motherboard. you can try to bypass the meters maybe you have a problem with just them. or maybe a problem with the harness that runs them. meter bypass should be the same as on an s2000 except they are mounted in the door. http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=327.0

i would trace the harness back from the meters and make sure you don't have a wiring problem( kinked/broken wire, loose pin) before you buy an mpu. also the ics i think you may want to check are u10 u74 and u78 if i have the correct schematic.

I will check the wire harness. The wires that could be a problem would be the two which are jumpered, could be broken, correct or pinched wires?

As far as surface mount chips testing or replacing, that will lead me to replacing the board or having my board tested to be sure the MPU is defective.
