Swap to LED lights.
« on: January 19, 2022, 02:54:09 PM »
I was looking to swap all the lights in my s2000 to LED.  I really want to change out the tube lights.

There are post of people talking about it, but I can't seem to find any exact info.

If you could provide info on the compatible lights for each part of an s2000 and its backlit reels that would be great.

Also is there anything else I need to know? Or is it just swap in new bulbs?

Thanks again.

The flourescent lights can be replaced by kits sold by suzo happ or the like.  They essentially bypass the ballast and just plug into the 24v lead.  As far as the backlights, changing to leds doesn't really work well in my experience.  The incandescent bulbs are always lit, just kind of dim enough so it doesn't shine through the translucent strip, but when using the leds, they don't get dim enough so there's always a slight backlight that is visible, but if you don't mind the slight backlight, then go at it.  All S2000's use 12 volt wedge bulbs.

Could you provide a link for the fluorescent lights?

Thanks.

These lights work great in your backlit reels https://www.ebay.com/itm/100pcs-Car-White-T10-LED-8SMD-Side-Wedge-Light-Bulb-W5W-194-168-2825-501-192-158-/402326572279?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0  These stay dim until a winning symbol or combination appears then the Led’s light up and make your backlit strips pop with color and you can’t beat the price. Turn the power off on your machine then remove your reels one at a time. Remove the reel strip then remove each bulb holder from the back of the reel, remove the old bulb and install the new. Once you get them all in re-install your reels and turn the power on to see if any of the bulbs don’t light up, note which one’s don’t and simply take the bulb back out and rotate the bulb 180 and you should be fine. Once they all light up install your strips power on your machine and your good to go.

I went the back lit LED route, but replacing all of the bulbs with LEDs is really garish and washes out all of the colors. The solution is to only replace 1 bulb in each reel. I used a 12v 4smd LED on the center row LH side (as you face the machine). Works like a charm, is dim enough during normal play (still slightly visible, and creates a cool shading effect), and is very bright and crisp and REALLY accentuates the colors when landing on a designated symbol. Ill try to take pics tomorrow, but to me, its the way to go, plus, this way you do not have to remove the strips from the reels, takes less than a minute per reel. Try it, just do one and you'll see what I mean.

Photos added. Shading is a bit more pronounced in person and us a really nice effect, without being overwhelming.

This is what happen when you put in links but don't add a photo of the actual item, part number, etc.
Makes the thread partly useless.

Thanks

But -  nearly $14 for shipping a pack of LED wedge bulbs!  :hissyfit:

Actually I've found another source with comparable bulbs. I'll update this or start an entire new second on LED bulbs.
There's lots of discussion here and on the old site but all the links are dead. And, sadly so are some of the members. :(
