Bally 785J identification
« on: January 10, 2015, 10:35:58 AM »
Hello Everybody,
Last week I bought my first Bally, I am afraid I was a bit too "greedy" and after close inspection it seems the top glass plate is not the original one, it's printed on paper and cut out. also the belly glass is the "general" bally design, and I think that is not the original one. I have been searching on the net and was hoping to find some pictures for comparison, however I did not seem to find any.I do have some small questions to get me started.
Did all "J" machines had the same design/glass plates etc., or is this letter just a mechanical sub type indication in the 785 series ?
Do any of you know where to find pictures of the 785J types ?
Best regards from Belgium
Tim

I believe the J is just a sub-type of the model. Please post a pic and we will try and provide some pics of the machine that are "original" as possible.

Here is a picture of the machine, the reel unit has 785J hand written on it, the side of the case the ID tag with 785J so that seems correct

Nice machine! That belly glass is actually one of the more desirable and may be the correct one for the game! That top glass, is that glass, with paper backing a around the meters?

And what country is it from?

The top glass is indeed the "home made" version, It would be great to find an original one but I think that will be difficult. I bought the machine here in Belgium, however when I was cleaning it a bit I found 3 Dutch guilders hidden behind a piece of metal, so I assume it was used in the Netherlands once. are there any sign to see the country ? not all the payout combinations are listed on the reel glass, so thats why I thought the belly glass is not the original, shouldn't all the combinations be listed on the glass plates ?

I see the lowest payout (of 2 coin) is listed on the reel (center) glass, so that makes me think the belly glass may be correct. There are not many EMs with payouts on the belly glass.

I was able to find a little something for you. It looks like they were made for export to Sweden. Here's the link and a picture.

Many thanks, the top layout is a bit different though.
So is it correct to say that within the 785J series there were many different visual designs ? so many different glass plates and decorations ? al build arround the same J type machine.. if that is the case then it is probably impossible to establish the machine's original look.

Another 785 just popped up in a different thread. It's a 785A, but thought you'd still be curious to see it...
