Bally look a like?
« on: February 13, 2015, 05:38:47 PM »
Saw a Summit Systems slot, looked like a Bally. Did Bally make these machines with Summit Systems boards or did Summit Systems make these machines originally?

Summit was hired/contracted by Bally to convert EMs to electronic machines. The boards will be Summit boards.

And the glass as well. The Bally Medalist was changed by Summit to show the tilt where the max payout was and reversed. It does show Summit on the glass instead of Bally.

Are parts and schematics available for the boards? Or is it best to stay away from them?

I know mostly about EM machines, but the solid state machines has a bunch of followers here. I am sure someone will answer the question. It will help to show pics of the machine inside and out.

Because of the boards, they are nothing like an EM. And I am not aware of anyone repairing the boards, besides HSM Electronics in Rohnert Park, CA. I know we have some parts, but no boards.

Personally, I would say pass them by, unless it is almost given to you...

My first electronic slot was a non-working Summit, which started its life as a Bally. I had no idea, and figured, I'd just replace the electrical cord, drill the locks, and waa-laa, I'd be playing it. Wrong.

I learned all about it from the school of hard knocks. It took a while and I developed a ton of knowledge about it. In my journeys I accumulated a manual and online, there's one expert who repairs and sells parts. Other than that, my own knowledge brought me to fully understanding the machine. At the bottom of this forum section, the last one deals in all other slots, and there are several posts regarding Summit.

Still, the machine works 100%, and actually, it's my favorite machine, so if the price is right - and you are willing to learn about it - it's probably a good deal. Otherwise, just look for an authentic Bally as there are more resources out there to tap into.

There are a few glaring problems with the Summit, which I have addressed and corrected. I would be happy to share if you go that route.

FWIW, I did some work on component ID and put together some info like this. It will be very useful when you start to troubleshoot it:
