I picked up this Jewel 2 weeks ago but I've got it all working beautiful but I do not know for sure what's going on because there is # after the 742A
and yes I'm on a smartphone so I can barely see the screen

Is that plate recesed in the wood on the cabinet? All I have ever seen is the plate directly on the formica side under the handle, not cut into the  formica and wood of the cabinet. :Scratch-Head:

What made it look to re recesed is the silver trim. Is this located on the right side underneath the handle? If not you will see that there is nail holes there and that is where the plate is supposed to be. .. Great to meet you. Thgis is a great place to hand and ask qustions... so many wonderful folks willing tojust lend a hand, with no other motives, just to help another collector in the industry. Got to keep it growing .... my grankids dont have  a clue to what their in store for when ther time s right. Its up to us to keep this wonderful hobby going.

Antique-Bally-742A-Slot-Machine-Stand
Here is a side view of what I guess to be what an original 742 machine looks like ... does your machine have the white area and star? . Originally this machine, had everything at 110Volts. It was changed down to the 50V coils and the 6V controlled lamp because the slot techs were getting nailed. The flouresent lamps are still run thru the ballast at 110V. There are a lot of machines out there with the Info plate being replaced with this one. The key to the info plate is as far as my little knowlege caries me, is a 742A-1G Money Honey slot. That is the original Bally EM and brings a fair price to the avid collector who just wants to have the first one. Most had been altered to run on 50v coils and others have been redone and their plates removed. It is not uncommon for a guy to reapply the original plate to a machine that does not match the cabinet style with the white and star. A large amount of the machines has been redone like this. Basicly speaking, it is a 742, just not the "Bally Money Honey" that came in the cabinet with the white side and star built on 110Volts. Eitherway, If you pick up a 742 and it plays and pays, and you didnt get whopped on price. You cant loose $$ in the long run I feel. Wont be long as far as I feel, for the EM machines to gain in popularity and value due toi the casinos have all gone to TITO systems(tickets or bills in ... tickets out ... no coins. I always loved dropping the coin in myself and hearing the coins actually hitting the tray when won. No other sound like it.

May I ask what area you are in oven guy? Prices vary, and pretty greatly, depending on area.

Lol Dave I am 78 miles west of Reno on the 80. I really don't sell anything if you were closer I would just give you one of them I seem to have quite a collection of 742A cases the only question I have is the M indication on the 742A instead of the numbers I have a very good list for 742 A's but I have nothing that indicates the m in there at all
I am hoping that old Reno May  have a clue as to the 742 a - M 57 and I also have a 742A- m1

Sorry kiddies, I got no clue.  I think OpBell is the guy to ask....
I do believe however, your 2nd number is the production number.
I.E., it is the 840th of the series made.
I had a 742A with a 1106 at one time, and it was the 1106th one made I think.
Sometimes the number will be the date.
Only evil bally engineers know for sure.
