On the game types you are running, the software paytables are in the eproms in the pci card.  The cf cards are only the OS and the software bridge that tells the machine to use the eproms on the PCI card.  That particular CF card is same in all those machine types.

It's the only removable card in the mpu.  It is the one with all the eproms on it.

I see the card mounted vertically on the CPU, right next to the power supply. Is that where the actual game software resides? Which chip(s)?

There are a bunch of Eproms installed on sockets.  It was Bally's way of extending the life of their jurisdiccionally approved software.  In the earlier Bally 6000 platform you would install the eprom with the paytable required by the casino (the percentage holdback).  Since the Bally 9000 platform contains all the available paytables, they got around it by installing all the paytable eproms in one board and the software takes care of selecting which one you require.  I've never had the PCI Eprom board, but I've seen a few and know in general how it works.  My best guess is that the board you have has either faulty chips or the eprom PCI board might be bad.

I noticed, while setting up these 4 Alphas, that when I select the game, there is no payout selection option. I have to accept the default, (only choice).

I'll try swapping the PCI eprom board, on the one machine that's giving me fits.

Does anyone burn these chips, (if I happen to need them)?

That explains why hidden paradise and pirates trove have the same 2 chips on that board...they're clones of each other.
I tried putting the 2 eproms on a known working PCI card...When I'm done setting the machine up, and hit return to game, I get the screen saying pending status, open door M

I van't get past that. I guess the eprom(s) are bad for the double gold machine.

After swapping chips, PCI cards, CPU boards, I'm convinced the chip(s) are bad on the Double Gold.

Open door M is also associated with the middle door (the one in front of the reels) so you might want to check that switch as well.

I've noticed one BIG difference between these 4 Alphas and my Monte Carlo.

On these Alphas, I don't get the reel glass bezel light show on winnings. Would that be because the game software doesn't support it?

The reel glass lamp bezel works fine in test mode.

All those games that use the PCI Eprom board are vestiges from the Bally 6000 series which did not have the led bezel, thus the games don't know it even exists.  You would have to obtain a game theme that is a native s9000 title.  I've always just dealt with the elite s9000's (the ones with LCD in the topbox), but the cabinets are very similar, so other than the SMI isssue, pretty much all the other common errors are the same as the elites.

Thanks Rick....I learn several new things w/ these slots every day.

It's a shame I won't get the bezel light show, but for little money I have in these machine, I'm happy.
