S Plus Door optic
« on: July 30, 2018, 08:10:19 AM »
I was hoping someone could help me, I don't have much experience setting up a S-Plus, I was having a reel error that was coming up on mostly on reel 3 move the reel and error did not follow, I ended up trying a clear chip and setting the options, work for a few days and then came back. I put in a new 16 mhz board reprogrammed using the "home settings" setup by Knagl, now I'm getting the flashing bottom lamp on the candle, Now I'm thinking to check the door optics, I went to the "13 0/1" test and can't get the 0 to flash to 1 when opening and closing the door latch.
I had changed the door optics out but between the old and new optics I can't seem to get a good test, the alignment looks good, should I have 5v dc at both the door optic plugs ?
Thanks
Dave

does the door optic test work with the 10 meg board?  you should get +5vdc on the door optic (black and red wire optic).  you should get +8-10 vdc on the cabinet optic (red and white wire optic.)

A couple of things:

The SP chip used on a 10 MHz board is different from the SP chip used on a 16 MHz board, and you'll get reel errors if you use the wrong SP chip for the board.  Was the old board you changed out a 10 MHz board?  If so, you'll need a different SP chip for your new 16 MHz board.

A rapid flashing bottom candle does not necessarily indicate a tilt that will prevent the machine from playing.  Depending on the SP chip in use, it could just be indicating that the door was previously opened (or the machine was just powered up).  If that's the case, the machine may be ready to accept a coin, and the rapidly flashing bottom candle will stop at the completion of one paid game.

(For the record, I was not the author of the "Typical home use settings for the SP1271 S+ GAME chip" thread -- StatFreak was -- I just copied the post over to this current version of the forum as the old forum software was being retired.)

Thanks Kevin, the 16 mhz board came with the correct SP chip, I didn't even think to try an put a quarter in. Im going to start from the beginning and make sure the machine has no credits reprogram just to make sure I didn't miss a step.
I do have another question when you are stepping through the test menu, say like the 13 0/1 test how do you get out of the test mode ?

Ok got it working, replaced the door optics but was having a hard time clearing the 61 1 code, after clearing the programing again, I got the 12 error, I never checked the battery on the replacement board I put in, it was reading 3.2 vdc, I replaced it with the battery on my old board that was only a few months old, so I'm guessing the low battery was causing some of my issues along with me making sure the optics were aligned. All working great now.
