43 Reel tilt on a Haywire S+
« on: November 26, 2018, 05:09:25 PM »
i just got a S+ Haywire Machine up And running ..it was running good the reels were going through the post spin fine..i run several; quarters through and played them ..Then the third reel hit on the double bar symbol and went into wheel tilting it will not reset..i reboot the machine and the 43 code is still there...the machine was completely redone.there were no boards ..chips.. sled.and coin comparti=itor as well.i replaced it all  and got it  up and running. After about 3.00 worth of quarters the reel tilt appeared..i swapped it out and the code went to the reel code second reel where i plugged it in..any ideas..i am hopping it is simple..

Opening and closing the door is typically all that is needed to correct a 41, 42, or 43 reel tilt.  If I'm reading your post correctly, you said you moved reel 3 to the reel 2 position, and then got a 42 error?  If so, you may have a reel with an issue.  The easiest fix is to swap the problem reel out with a known good reel to see if that resolves the issue.  Do you have another machine you can borrow a reel from to see if a new reel fixes the issue?

A more advanced solution would be to try and repair the problem reel, but having not done that before I don't have a lot of advice in that department.

If putting a known good reel in still does not solve the issue, there could be an issue with the connection between the MPU and the reel, or a problem with the MPU board.  If the problem followed the reel when you moved it to a different position, however, these are not likely in your situation.

There seems to be something dragging on the reel.. after I turn the power off it is still dragging while the others reels are free ..is there a clutch or reel brakes that could be sticking

Sounds like a bad reel motor or a reel basket that is out of position.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

I moved the reel 3 to reel 2 and connected them up and reel 2 tilted in the where 3 was ,so I read that it is not a reel issue but could be a Door optical issue..I put in all boards etc since the machine was stripped..it was running fine, but I did notice that it would not take a coin a few times.witch again leads to the optics’s again as the issue

If the error moved from reel 3 to reel 2 then the problem is with the reel/reel motor not the door optics.

Are you saying that you swapped reels 2 and 3 and still getting error 43?  If so, then it is not the reels.

If I understand what you are trying to describe, that the reel tilt is still occurring in the number three spot.

if you moved #2 to #3 and the #2 is tilting in where the #3 used to be?

after the swap, when you applied power, did the display go blank and then the reels tried to spin and you got the 43 code, or does the 43 code stay on the display and never goes blank ?

one item that could cause the reel to drag: the reel basket is not on the motor shaft all the way, this will cause the plastic tabs on the reel basket to rub up against the reel optic. the plastic sensor tabs have to be in the center of optic as they pass through. to correct this , place the reel on its motor side, take a 5/16 nut driver, place it over the motor shaft (there should be a security ring holding it on the shaft) now GENTLY TAP THE NUT DRIVER to drive the reel basket to where the plastic sensor tab is in the center of the optic.

compare it to one of the other two that run freely and do not drag, you will see if that is the problem.

Reel tilts are not related to door optics but perhaps wheel optics.
The reels are controlled by digital stepper motors. Ie an instruction is sent that says move to position 23 and it does that.
The optics is a verification that this was carried out and not tampered with.
The wheel optics are part of the reel assembly.
Easiest option (and likely cheapest) is to change the basket assembly.

Just to be clear. Did the problem move with the reel basket ? or did the problem remain with the position ?
Ie did a 43 become a 42......

If the position is the problem then you can look at the bank of 5 resistors on the corner of the MPU board. You will see that 3 of the 5 will be a bit burnt.
These control the reels. Theoretically the S+ can support 5 reels that is why there are 5 resistors. You can always steal one of the two unused ones to repair one that is overly fried.
If you can't afford to lose you can't afford to win.

Based on moving stuff around your problem remains the third slot. Not the reel hardware.

I suggest you look at the bank of resistors on the corner of the board.
There re 5 of them. 3 are going to be black and two will look brand spanking new.
The middle one #3 is likely going to look more fried than the others. Replace it with one of the ones that look new.

Technically the S+ can drive 5 reels but nothing in NorthAmerica has any more than 3. Those extra 2 resistors are not needed.
If you can't afford to lose you can't afford to win.

I have never been able to clear any S+ reel tilt except by clearing the machine.

You bring up a good point.

My advice was based on the premise that the reel tilt had been cleared and it was re-occurring after he moved hardware around. If that is not the case the tilt has to be cleared and we validate the re9occurance in the same spot.
