Bally s9000 Slant tip help?
« on: December 14, 2018, 06:15:09 PM »
Hey guys,

So let’s just say that I had seven slot machines of various models (igt, aristocrat, Konami, sigma, cherry) so I found a distributor local to me who buys slots straight from the casinos. Well let’s just say these machines come however they feel like sending them.
I ended up purchases 19 machines, 8 Bally’s Alpha S9000 Slant Tops, 2 Bally’s alpha uprights (the ones with the bonus spinning wheels at the top) and 9 WMS Reels. I got a great deal on them all.
I brought 3 of the Bally’s over to the store. I put a new battery in the slant top, and the cleared it set it up and noticed the bill validator didn’t cycle. Dreadful bill com validator error, so I open up the machine and find 2 wires bv on and something close to that, I am not as my store so I remember what it read but in short ran to the back of the bill box. I walked over to the other slant tops and they are connected to a green and black cable but I can’t find those cables to save my life. So I did find a red/white and another wire close to where they should be and they were cut, is there anyone out there who would be willing to FaceTime and see if they see something I don’t?

Thanks in advance
Sam

You will find that casino's will fill the "parts complete" machines with whatever parts they have around.  I have seen machines with validators that don't even belong to the machine as well as printers.  Casino machines are a total crapshoot, sometimes you get lucky, but a lot of times, you are just buying parts machines to put some together.  The wiring on all alphas is pretty much identical across all JCM validators, the Mars validators use a different harness, but they are all essentially connected to the backplane through a 6 pin molex cable for signal (in reality only 3 of the circuits are used) and a 2 pin small flat black molex for power.

I’ll try later I guess. It usually wants me to size down any photo before adding it hense why I typically avoid it like the plague,

I have the new bill validator all installed and I have the BV On wire and BV Com wire, but I see no place to plug them in. I have referenced other machines I owned and found the wire, but the only one I could access (same machine, really tight storage) I could not follow back to where is goes to the main board, because even though mine has easy disconnects I don’t think the original male ends for the BV on and BV comm are in my machine. So I’m looking for where in the board they go so I can make new connects for it. After that I’m done with this machine. Which is a quick hit wild 7 jackpot, progressive slant top.

Thanks

The backplane has labels as to what each plug does.  On the alpha 1's the validator is connected to P4, top right of backplane about the 2nd or 3rd connector down.

There is a green and black wire that is labeled BV com and BV on. But they don’t plug in to a molex but they turn into a easy pull away

So here’s the curve ball. After removed the blue box BV and installing the wba, I found that it’s not plug and play, there is a rs232 com board to lets the uba to work with the Bally alpha. Does anyone know the name of the board so I can try to find it online.

The UBA's are serial already, it's just jumpers on the logic board.  The WBA's do require a side-mounted serial adapter.  Usually just called JCM rs-232 interface.
