IGT S+ Slant Top.
« on: December 23, 2018, 07:20:53 AM »
Im having issues installing a different game on my 10Mhz board. Switching from Balloon Bars ( 3 coin ) to Wild Diamond ( 3 coin ) In every case Ive gotten a 45 error which Im told only happens to 5 reel machines. What is the correct method on installing new software? When the software tries to install, my reels jerk and then the 45 code shows. Ebay bought I told the seller about the error and he resent some other chips which did the same thing. Chips he sent the first time are: Older chip hard to read looks like SS6337 ( reels i believe ) an then a SP1048 ( game ). The replacement chips he sent had two reel chips SS6337(512) hand written and then another SS6337with either it's G4 or G7 hand written. Again the same 45 code. I wouldn't think I was sent bad chips again so maybe it's something Im doing. Any help would be awesome.

Do you have a 10mhz board or a 16mhz board? 10's won't work in a 16 board. A picture of your board might help. Are you getting the chips in the correct way? The indention in the chip has to face the same way as the other chips.   Welcome to NLG!    :NLG_WELCOME:

I have both boards but havn't been able to get the 16MHz to take a program an it also doesn't have sound, suppose to be a new board but who knows. The 10MHz is what Im using Ive tried both boards with no success with the first set of chips, but this time I only used the 16 with the second set of chips which gave me a 45 reel tilt. When I used my board with the first set of chips I got 62,1 error. An yes the chips are in the right way. The chip numbers I posted are correct for my 10MHz board? An once again, what is the correct way to change games? Im seeing not to use my ram reset, is this correct? Thanks for the welcome.

You are correct about them being for the 10mhz board. If I'm telling you things you  already know, I'm sorry. But I'm not sure how much experience you have so I'll see what we can come up with. The 10mhz chips in the 16mhz board will cause reel problems among other things and will not work. It sounds like your first board try was just needing errors cleared. The 62-1 error is cleared by opening the door and pressing the self test button for 2 -3 seconds. Then you should get a 61 code. Press the test button again for a few seconds. The machine should make a ding sound but may not. Look to see if it changed to 61-1. If it did, close the door, latch it and turn the reset key 1 time. The machine should reset and the reels spin. The insert coin light should come on and be ready to play. I'll add a link to the error codes for the S+ machines below.

I found out after the fact about clearing that error so that tells me the first set of chips he sent were correct I just hadn't gotten that far yet in the manual. However, his sale pitch was those chips worked in both 10 an 16Mhz boards. Still doesnt explain no sound with the 16. So, to install another game, no RAM reset is needed, just change reel strips an install both ROMS makin note of the notches an fire it up?  Wouldnt I need the BV/on/off chip to enable, in my case, the coin thingy ( lol ) an set it to.25? An trust me, Dave, im still quite new at this but in the last 5 months, 8 slots have shown up dead, 5 out of 8 are working just from dumb luck and a few well put questions.  I have a Aristocart 5 reel that needs some lovin an a Bally video poker ( converted was a slot at one time ) that has some acid/water damage and some real crappy ribbons. When I got it, it powered sayin basically the battery was dead, replaced powered, lite on board doesn't come on, video is present but no pic. All the board stuff looked good caps seemed ok, no bulging, trans an dio's looked good circuits seems a bit powdery but intact and no solder holes to fill. I'll give the board numbers later in the correct posting area. Thanks for your help Dave.

Sounds like you're doing great. Well he told you a half truth. The SS (reel) chip will work in both but the SP (game) chip is specific to either 10 or 16 boards. And you're right no clear is needed. Install the strips, chips and fire it up. You can change the glass after the machine is up and running. You'll need to make sure a sample coin is in the comparator. And a Set15 chip to enable the B/V.

Wild Diamonds is not a S+ theme - it may however be a clone pay table of another theme.
Of course you also need the right SS chip and reel strips to match the theme. Noting that a slant set of strips are different than non slant.

If you check our Ricks FAQs. Home page, bottom right. He walks you through displaying the chip number for both the game chip and reel chip.
The reel chip is the SS and the game chip is SP.

You can then browse through the IGT S+ Game bible and look up your chip number to see what theme it is or look to buy the appropriate theme you want.

If you can't afford to lose you can't afford to win.

SS6332-6337 are Wild Diamonds for S+ (2 coin).  Don't have the 3 coin SS# handy.
Also, strips are the same between upright and slant on S+, it is the half of the reel basket that is actually different.
Hope this helps.

Here's a link to the S+ bible showing the Wild Diamonds 3cm SS chips. The SS6337 is listed as a 92.5% payout.

Wild diamonds seem to be working just fine, the reels are real cool.  I like it better because more winning chances ( lol ) an balloon bars was gettin kinda boring with a payout, even though my machine says right on it, pays over 80%, whoever said that was high. Does about 74% if that..

A percentage payout is not an immediate payout. If your machine is set with a 90% chip, you're not going to get back 90¢ for every dollar you put in. The percentage is set up for a payout over the life of the machine. Some nights it will payout 150% and some nights maybe only 20% of the money put in. And as usual, some nights it runs hot and then it goes cold. The bottom line is, these machines are made to take your money, not pay you to play. If you play it long enough, it will take all your money.

From dummies.com:

When casinos advertise that their slot machines pay out an average of 90 percent, the fine print they don’t want you to read says that you lose 10 cents from each dollar you put into the machines in the long term. (In probability terms, this advertisement means that your expected winnings are minus 10 cents on every dollar you spend every time the money goes through the machines.)
Suppose you start with $100 and bet a dollar at a time, for example. After inserting all $100 into the slot, 100 pulls later you’ll end up on average with $90, because you lose 10 percent of your money. If you run the $90 back through the machine, you’ll end up with 90 percent of it back, which is 0.90 x 90 = $81. If you run that amount through in 81 pulls, you’ll have $72.90 afterward (0.90 x 81 = 72.90). If you keep going for 44 rounds, on average, the money will be gone, unless you have the luck of Rusty Griswold!
