Hi all D here.  I just purchased a Seeburg 5MW-11 and have gotten the stuck reels freed and working fairly well.  I have Questions about the operation seeing as I have never worked on an electromechanical machine before.  My unit seems to have had the attendant pay light removed.  I am wondering how hard it would be to replace the light and get that system working.  Also, on the side of the machine a bit behind the lock that opens the machine, there is another lock that attaches to a microswitch inside the unit.  I don't have the key for this and am trying to figure out what it is for?  I am currently working the bugs that I can out of it.  Hopefully I won't get stuck.  Also, if anyone has different faces for the front of these machines (the part that lights up and has the casino name, five coins played etc., please give me a holler.  I would be interested in purchasing a different one as mine has slight paint damage. It also appears that another lighted panel may have been able to be placed in the lower section of the front.  Mine has a metal panel with plywood backing.  Again, if any are available please let me know!  Thanks in advance!!

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me will chime in soon. This is probably the least talked-about machine on the forum.

For starters, please post one or two photos showing the inside of the machine and door.
The other key switch is likely a reset of some sort. You can carefully remove the wires from the inside and just short them together for the future.  New key switches are available.
Is your machine working at all?

Yes machine is working.  When i purchased it the center reel had welded itself to the shaft and we had to physically beat it off using sockets as hollow punches.  Once removed the center section of the bearing assembly literally fell out.  Now it is supported by the anti back spin mechanism alone but is fine 99 percent of the time.  First reel had to be cleaned out for the anti back spin to operate correctly.  Had to shift the wire loom to get the 3 and 5 coin lights to work.  Other than that so far so good.

It's an honor for Shortracjskater to conside  Seeburg Willams slot owners as "the least talked-about machine on the forum"  I am happy to see another Seeburg Williams unit posted.  I own one myself and is still trying to get it work, and still finding the service manual, with whopping Book I, II and III ! Yes, mine has certain components removed, but most likely as a means of bypassing to get it to work.

Took some pics of the mechanism.  Also if anyone can tell me how to manually empty the coin hopper electrically I'd really appreciate it.  Is there a switch or?  Still learning.

Just pull the hopper straight out by the handle. Then dump the coins into a bucket. You may have to shake it a little to get them off the pinwheel.

My unit is about 5 to 7 years before yours. The hopper and reel is very similar, I don't know about the "step up" units, the so called "computer" that controls the count and odds. In my unit, it's  right above the reels on a seperate deck. From your photo, it's  the "Low Boy" model design, there is no upper compartment above the reels. I don't know where they pack the "step up units", maybe also right above the reels.


There is a switch next to my hopper that electrically start the hopper spinning and split out the coins inside.  See white arrow in my photo.  Photo taken with the reels removed.  The plastic container where the reels were is baking soda.  My unit has 40 years of cigarette and tar oil, and really stinks despite multiple cleaning by me and the previous owner. My lungs feel constricted after working on this unit for an hour or so every time. So until I get the unit working, I have containers of baking soda all over to absorp the cigarette tar smell. Even the odor can cause lung cancer !  Cigarette smoking is the no. 1 cause of lung cancer. Many smokers are immune for some reason, but I don't want to take extra risk.


I cannot see a switch in yours. But you have two switches near the main fuses. Have you try those. I only have one main power switch in mine.

Should you decide to manually pull the hopper out of the compartment, be extra careful because there may be a multi pin electrical connector behind the hopper that can be damaged if the unit is not pull out correctly ! Some of the metal components of the hopper deform or bent easily, it's by design. So also be careful.

Do share some photos of the top compartment of the cabinet where the "step up" units are. This was a popular design before "computer" PC boards and  IC chips inside arcade games, slot machines and juke boxes.  Mine looks like several big copper siders living inside those compartments.
